bigturk_80
Hey Guys, I'm new to this board, I stumbled across it through other sites. I've been making my own lures for quite some time, and I've always used powder paints. I would like to get into airbrushing, as I have other hobbies that would benefit from learning how to airbrush. I'm assuming there have been lots of threads on airbrushing, and I will do a search, however, I'm trying to get a general idea of what's out there in terms of a decent airbrush and compressor.......what most guys use......etc... And I'd also like to know, can you go with acrylic paints on spinner blades and spoons, or do mose use oil based paints? So I guess what I'm asking is, can you guys post up a couple links to some tried and tested airbrushes, paints, videos, or anything else that might keep me busy reading over the next little while so I can start learning? I feel I'm pretty limited to what I can do using the heat and dip powder paints. I want to bring the painting up to the next level.
cadman
Welcome to Tackle Underground. If you are looking to get crankbait style painting done on your jigs or spinnerbaits that have a lot of detail, then I would say yes you will need to get into airbrushing. Lacquer paint being the most durable, however you will have to evacuate the fumes. Also if you use any lacquer paint or waterbase paint, you will have to clear coat for longevity and durability. With that said, I don't know what your goals are. But there are a lot of guys here that do beautiful paint work with powder paint. From multi-color to air brushing powder paint. So don't sell yourself short. Powder paint hands down is more durable than lacquer or waterbase paint and you can do some impressive painting if you take your time and learn the process. You will get more feedback here for sure..................Good Luck
