Oldfart9999
I am new to pouring jigs, I have learned some things from members of this site and another site I belong to and what I've learned so far I would like to pass along. Instead of melting old lead just before pouring I am now melting, cleaning and pouring into ingots, that way I am not screwing around with having to clean the lead and the pot when I have limited time to pour, I only have to melt flux and pour. I flux the lead everytime I pour, it is quick, gives better results, and helps keep the pot clean. I have a Lee Number 4 Production pot, I do not fill it all the way anymore, it takes too long to melt, leaks constantly, and I can't pour that much at once anyway, three, four, or five pounds of lead pours a lot of jigs. I bought the nice little sprue cutter, they work ok, now I bend the sprue, and twist, it comes off easily and is neater on the jig. As I said, I'm a rookie, but I'm learning and having fun maling my own jigs, though I don't think I'll use up about 900 jigs in a hurry, may take a couple of trips. Yes, I bought that many hooks.LOL Rodney Edited December 30, 2010 by Oldfart9999
