It is the contents of the pot that you are controlling, so away from the element and touching the pot. FishAction Posted January 22, 2011 Report Share Posted January 22, 2011 It's not a thermostat on a Lee pot, it's a control just like an electric stove eye. The heating element is around the pot, mounted to remain in place and connected to the control. The Lee control has two wires which connect to the heating element. The heat is controlled by the amount of current allowed to flow through the element; i.e. cooking on an electric stove. Take a look at the setup of a stove eye and wire your element the same way. A strong word of caution: Do not allow the electric connection to the heating element to come in contact with your heating pot. You have 110VAC and will get a nasty shock if you do.
