wingnut
What is the best way to cleanly remove old epoxy from the guides? If your replacing a broken guide, cut through the epoxy and thread onto the guide foot so you don't damage the blank then peel or pry the rest off. It seems the epoxy just encases the thread wrap and does not adhear that well to the blank Itself. Hope that helps.
leeshelton
Well the other rods I have re-done I just was putting guides back in the exact place they were before. Most of the old epoxy did not come off the blank easily and I had to scrape some of it off or sand it off which left places on the blank. My problem this time is I'm re-doing one where a friend wants spiral wrapped micros in place of a regular set of guides so the spacing is going to be different and the blank needs to be perfectly clean. Mattman
Heat from an alcohol torch works best for me.
BobP
I think you can get it perfectly clean with heating and/or shaving the epoxy off with a razor blade but you'll always have areas that show where the old guides were. I never had much luck sanding and refinishing blanks but that's probably the only way to get one looking 'factory new'.
