What is a good number of skirt lyers to make the skirt close to Ekins jigs or a fuller look? Then I am thinking of doing some hand tied skirt collors. What would I need to do this? smalljaw Posted January 22, 2011 Report Share Posted January 22, 2011 I can't help you with the toll but as far as the number of layers you want to use for an Eakins type, I make them and use 2 and 1/2, that is 50 stands and make a nice full skirt but I only use that many on 1/4oz to 1/2oz, for 1/8oz I use 2 and for 5/8oz and bigger I like 3. To do hand tied skirts, you'll need a vise, jig tying thread, and some sort of epoxy to seal the thread, you'll also need a bobbin to hold the spool and apply tension, it isn't hard but does take a little practice. So where would be the best place to skirts from? I know Lure Craft, Jann"s are Barlows sells them is there any other sites to check out?
