flippinfool
Which buzzbait do you prefer. Regular old fashion flat bottom or one with a keel. Want to start pouring my own but have no idea which mold or type of blades for that matter. Anything you buy you are stuck with what they sell you. Any buzzbait fanatics out there? smalljaw
I haven't gotten into buzzbaits but I do fish them and my buddy makes a good one with the keel bottom and counter rotating double prop blades, it really traks true and you can burn it without the rolling effect, one of the best, I may even get that mold and make them for myself. Is this the mold you're talking about? http://www.barlowstackle.com/Buzz-Keel-Buzz-Bait-Mold-P273C57.aspx Counter rotating double prop blades? Do you have a link what they look like? Or how you rig them. Thanks, Smalljaw
flippinfool
In general I personally prefer a 1/2oz wide flat bottom inner spin like this Persuader attached. I like to slow roll buzzbaits past points and down narrow constrictions in channels. This one surfaces quickly, blubs nicely at fairly slow speeds, and doesn't tend to roll too bad when burned. There is another bait using a 3 wing blade I like. Strike King Currently makes it in 3/8 and 1/4. There used to be a market for it with a bigger blade and a 3/4 oz head. Some of the shallow lakes I fish that have tons of stick up trees can really benefit from fishing this bait as you can cast it a mile, and it also surface quickly and rolls slow, but it does tend to roll if burned. I don't care for the smaller lighter version currently made my Strike King, but I attached a picture for refference. triwing.bmp Thanks for the info......... robbor
I prefer my buzzbaits with .040 wire frames, center balanced aluminum blades, in black or white. I like them to be able to pull smoothly and to be able to slow them down. The plopping sound and squeaking are deadly. Flat bottom and top, doesnt need a keel and i hate round spinnerbait heads. You should stick with 3/8oz to start. The speed is the key, probably need a trailer on a 1/2 to slow it down enough to not miss half the fish. Which buzzbait do you prefer. Real Deal Custom Tackle
I'm biased to the one I make. Can keep it on top with Zebco. BUT, ALL the responses above are accurate. They are all good suggestions. Each buzzbait has applications of it's own. Slow rollors, burners, clackers, wakers, double blade, tri blade, counter blade. ALL of them will be better at times than others. Just find one that you like and have confidence in and stick with it. They are fun baits to make and very satisfying to catch fish on your own baits. Good Luck!
