Chemionics

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a liter of a couple different plastisols by Chemionics. I have stirred it using a drill and paint stirrer, shaken it, you name it. Its turns out like goo. Because it pours like water, I cant inject it smoothly. There is no hard pack on the bottom of the container. It literally falls out of the injector. I am sure Im probably doing something wrong but never had problems with another plastisol that I have used. Any advice? How long should it be stirred, should it be stirred at a slow speed, high speed, forward, reverse? Thanks a bunch

I have had that plastic do that to me before. It was because I did not stir it. If you did, then the main container was not. I still have a blob of it in a container, I add a little to each batch of watermelon so I will get rid of it. It is like jello right now. Hope you work it out.

i love chemionics. i have not had anything hard pack on me yet, i put 2 buts in the jugs to help when i shake it . I use 1 gallon at a time and only shake before i use it. with it coming out the tip of the injector, just tilt the injector and then quickly put it in the molds. i havent made a mess doing it like that. i also use a small injector, and i have 5 injection molds.

I'm having the same problem. I mixed it once a day for a week before I used it again. It's still extremly soft and sticky. very messy clean up. Seems like not enough hardener was added in that batch (1 gal jug)

Had same issue and it is tough to stir well in the 1 gallon jug. I was told I needed to actually get the layer of packing mixed so just shaking the jug a while would not suffice. Went to different plastisol.

My baits were very sticky and the cups/molds were extremely tough to clean out.

I have been using bolts in my plastic jugs via a recommendation on this site and after having some hard packing with MF plastic. While they work good, I had an experience this weekend, that will have me varifying other ways to make sure there is no hard pack.

I purchased a gallon of Calhouns soft and one of hard, at the end of last year. The jugs have dates that indicate similiar timeframe of filling. I added bolts to the soft and went through a significant amount of shaking. Held the jugs to the light, and there was not a clear indication of hard pack. Full jugs are hard to tell. Poured some baits that came out slightly sticky. Did more shaking between each pour, but still was coming out slightly sticky. Went and checked with a rod. Sure enough, there was about a half inch of hard pack. Scraped it off with the rod, and after another few rounds of shaking and rod checking, got it all disolved. Next baits were fine.

PS: There was no hardpack in the gallon of hard. Go figure.

I have used M-F for many years and never seen any hard pack with their plastic. After 6 months of sitting, there is a very thin layer of packing that is easily mixed with gentle shaking. If you had hard packing with M-F, I would have been on the phone with Jeff/Robert right away.

Hard pack is a result of the resins falling to the bottom of the container. The larger pvc resins are cheaper, the tinier, small sized resins are more expensive. Larger pvc resins will fall faster and pack quicker where the extremely small resins will stay in suspension for a very long time and are easily re-suspended. Very similar to what we see with glitter in our cups.

M-F uses very fine resins to avoid the hard packing. You can tell what others are using based on how quick the hard pack occurs.

For me, I would not add anything into the plastic for stirring unless it is a stirrer. You could get some metal shaving from the bolts or the bolts/nuts could have checmical coating on them that reacts with your plastisol. I can see a metal shaving doing some damage to the inside of an injector real easy.

Just my 2 cents though...

Jim

PS I thought the nuts/bolts addition was for colorant bottles myself.

MF was my 1st experience with plastic, so wouldn't have known it was an issue. ie saw lots of discussion here on it, and assumed it was with all plastics brands. From memory from last year, I think that was about a half inch or so, too. I would say that it wasn't as "hard" as what I just had with the Calhouns soft. After adding the SS bolt, was able to get it to suspend with just shaking. I don't believe that jug was dated, so assumed it sat for a while. I also noticed some settling from sitting 9 months, when I resummed use. Again, shaking with the bolt was fine. Maybe we have a definition confussion. Hard pack vs Soft pack?

Understand your concern on the bolts. I think it is unlikely with the single large ss bolts I used. Thanks for mentioning use in color bottles. Those all settled out from last year. Adding a ss nut to each should help speed up the process.

I was just thinking you might have gotten some contaminated plastic or "bad" from M-F, thats all. Yeah, I would say that M-F doesn't hard pack at all, soft pack sound right.

BBs work good in the colorant bottle too.

Jim

M-F did have a couple bad barrles of plastic a while back. I belive they replaced everybodys that called them.
