northsea
Hi all, Would like to add a red tail to a few shads etc I have. Any suggestions on type of paint I could use that will adhere and stretch and stay on as long as possible? Absolutely any suggestions greatly appreciated indeed. nova
The easiest way for what you want to do is to use dipping dyes. www.novalures.com

northsea
Thanks so much for the reply! Dipping dyes? Sorry but you are talking to a complete novice here. Do you by any chance have a link to such a product that will be suitable to soft baits? I assume this stuff stretches with the bait? I'm based in the UK so may struggle to source this stuff here so may need to rely on a supplier your way to ship which is often interesting how much some charge. Thanks very much again for the support. Chris

northsea
Ah I see the sort of thing you are meaning now. I'm afraid I don't like to use anything scented on my lures. Is there a type of paint that I can simply brush on to tails and add a bit of detail etc? I assume shop bought lures would need to be treated/cleaned in some way for the paint to adhere as much as possible? Many thanks again for the support. TBaits
I didn't think all dipping dyes were scented. Did you google them? Also, Lurecraft sells paint for soft plastics.
Richard Prager
Spike It makes it with and without scent
HJS
Yeah, "Spike It" is about as good as it gets. I've used it for the past 2 years. The end result is as good as the factory made red tails on plastics. There's no faster way to color a tail. It's permanent and will not rub off. However, I'm not sure if it will bleed to other colors while in a bag. Also, do not spill it on anything good, like plastic boat seat covers!!! Spike It colors will bleed onto other plastics, at least the chartruese dip. I started using their pens, and they are great.
northsea
Thanks guys for the comments. I've sourced out some spike-it and hoping the company will be kind with the shipping charges as I'd really like to try it out. Don't suppose any of you are coming to the UK in the near future? LOL Now does the shop bought lure need to be treated in some way before application? Many thanks again Chris
toadfrog
You can use plain old soap and water. Most packaged baits will have at the very least vegetable oil on them . That does three things . Makes them slick so they package easier, makes them seem livelier when squished in the package and gives them a little extra shine. Cyrano
Chris, I am sorry to say that I can’t send you the dyes, because I just found out it is illegal to send this product via USPS mail and I don’t fancy the chances of getting caught and slapped with a huge fine. I really wish I could help out another TU member.
