Looking For The Bait Keeper That Is Used In The Title Shot Jigs.

Recommended Posts

I have just found this site, and I have to say it is great. I am just starting to make my own jigs, and i am wanting to experiment on some stuff. I have been using the Title shot Jigs from Fin Tec, for the last couple of years and love the bait retainer that they use. Does anyone know if it is possible to find those retainers? or something similar?

Welcome to the site Andy5014, now that you are getting into making your own tackle you'll have a lot of questions and were all here to help. I see these questions a lot and what you have to remember is alot of the features on production model baits are either contrated out to another company and no one else can use it or they are designed and made in-house and often patented so no one else can use it, either way it isn't something us small do-it-yourself guys can get our hands on. There is some good news though, there are custom mold makers around and if you're handy the cast molds from do-it and hilts are able to be modified but for that title shot jig you'll need a custoom mold if you that head shape. If you can use a round ball or footballhead jig then it shouldn't be hard to make you're own keeper since it is only plastic and a weedless jig mold already has a slot for a weedguard and you can use a skirt collar to hold your keeper in the slot while blocking the rest of the hole so the lead doesn't flow out and you'll have your keeper in your jig, the only thing is to find a piece of plastic to make it. I'm sorry there isn't a place that you can buy them but this is the part of tackle making a lot of guys like, to develop ways to make their store bough favorites, we already have at least one member making his own hard head jigs that Tommy Biffle uses, I'm sorry if this wasn't the answer you wanted to hear but for now its all there is, good luck.

Andy, I too would love to find that bait keeper or figure out a way to make it. So far it has eluded me. My best solution so far is to use a Twist Lock Coil. It is a screw lock bait keeper with a centering pin. It is made by Owner and is available at Bass Pro Shops. The other solution is to make your own screw locks. there is a tutorial by Kelly here on TU. It is called making consistant screwlocks. it is easy to do and works very well. Hope this helps.

Here is the short cut to the tutorial. easy to make and easy to use. I have used it on a jig in place of a weed guard.

Thanks for the replies and the info. I still hope to one day be able to duplicate the bait retainer, but you guys have given me so other options.

I have seen a swimbait hook that uses a keeper like that. If you can find the source for the one on the swimabit hhok you could certainly have a jig mold made twhere it moves like on this shaky jig.

I thought about this post tonight while at walmart ... Our walmart here the Gamakatsu hooks are cheaper then our Gander Mountain and we were at WM anyways. Mustad has a swimbait hook or something with a post like that. Now I gotta figure out how to make the mold.
