RayburnGuy
What with the latest confusion over Dick Nites addition of 2 new top coats and what they are being called it got me to thinking that it might be a good idea if there were a place where all the abbreviated names of different products could be listed. This might help with all the confusion and also serve as a helpful guide to people just getting started in building/refinishing lures. I have no idea as to how much trouble it is to make a pinned page and this would ultimately have to be left up to Jerry to decide. Just wondering if anyone else thinks this would be a good idea and what your thoughts on it are? thanks guys, Ben

Lincoya suggested this 30 months ago, but it never got off the ground: http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/13413-lure-making-terminology/page__p__98617__hl__abbreviations__fromsearch__1#entry98617 It would need someone to co-ordinate it (you), to collate the info and badger people into participating. I suggest a spread sheet for adding the entries to, as this can be automatically sorted into alphabetical order. I would certainly take part, easy enough to have a spreadsheet or word document on the desk top, handy for adding to. Good luck with it. RayburnGuy
My computer skills at this sort of thing (spreadsheets, Word documents, etc.) are inadequate at best, but if someone would be willing to help get things going I'd be willing to do the grunt work such as organizing things alphabetically and making sure there were no duplication of terms. I frequent the Hard Baits section more than any other forum and know that we have quite a few abbreviations that are used almost on a daily basis and am pretty sure that the other forums do pretty much the same thing. If we had a dedicated spot to keep these phrases and their definitions it might save a lot of time explaining the same thing over and over again. Would sure like some input from some of the other members as to their thoughts on this. Let me know what you think. Is this a good idea or am I wasting my time? Ben, it is definately a good idea and certainly not a waste of time. If we get a comprehensive list done and if Jerry make it easily accessible, preferrably without having to leave the post, it would be invaluable to new members. It will take a long time to compile the list before it is worth incorporating. I have made a start to see how it would work. So far, I am finding that a reference to a particular forum is not necessary, as most of the terms are common across forums. If you only searched words applicable to a particular forum, you are likely to miss what you are looking for. Searching for the term is just a matter of scrolling down an alphabetical list. PM me your email and I will send you what I have got so far. Dave Edited February 16, 2011 by Vodkaman

redg8r
This gets brought up occasionally. Agreed that it's worth implementation now more than ever. make it easily accessible, preferrably without having to leave the post,.... That would be the best case scenario. I'll start coding it, if you guys have a list of abbreviations and acronyms you would like referenced, I'd sure appreciate the effort. I could possibly define certain keywords too. Thanks for the input. Jerry

We want to make this as easy to use as possible and are thinking that an alphabetical list of terms, abbreviations, acronyms, etc. in a spreadsheet form will be the best way to go. If you have any suggestions then please jump in. Not sure about Dave, but I have no idea what is involved in actually putting something like this online so if there is anything we need to be doing that will make your job easier or more practical just let us know. thanks, Ben
RayburnGuy
OK guys and gals. Would really appreciate some help with compiling a list of abbreviations, terms, phrases, acronyms, etc. Dave and I are starting work on compiling a list and applying definitions and Jerry has agreed to add it to the site. If you had rather keep answering the same questions over and over (and I'm sure I've asked my share) then by all means do not participate. But if you think this would be a helpful addition to TU then please take the time to post your ideas on this thread. It's not like we're asking you to give us the last lure your great grandpa carved from his wooden leg just before he died that only catches 10 pound bass or 60 inch muskies. It will only take a couple minutes of your time and I promise it will be completely painless. thanks, Ben aka RayburnGuy
Vodkaman
We would really appreciate your help an cooperation with this little project. The easiest way is to have a word document on your desk top. This way your browsing need not be disturbed, just throw in the word or acronym. When you have accumulated a few, email to me. folicallychalled@aol.co.uk You can add descriptions, but it is not necessary, just words that you think a new member might have problems with. Don't assume that a word must have already been added, write them all down. If you would like an uptodate list of what we have so far, email me. If Jerry is prepared to write code for this project, the least we can do is compile the list for him. Dave
redg8r
Ok, we got a good working start, thank you Ben & Dave, great work with over 100 definitions. Some of them will link in topics simply by typing them, such as " pop " " dn " " s81 " etc. The reference glossary is here, I set it up "wiki" style, meaning all members can edit and add to the glossary. I'll add credits to you both in the glossary and add a direct link to the site navigation shortly. BTW, an announcement was made on the homepage
