Please Help With Taking Apart Ambassadeur 2500ci

Recommended Posts

I purshased a brand new 2500CI (I think made in 2004, model 04 00)and started to take it apart to put in upgrade parts. Much different than the larger Ambassadeurs. Had 2 problems:

1. Wasn't able to get palming plate spool bearing out. Took off the clip and looks like should lift out but couldn't get it to move.

2. How do I take apart the levelwind? The usual clip isn't there. Looks like there's a pin that may need to be removed?

Will greatly appreciate any help with these 2 issues, as well as regarding any other differences between these reels and the larger Ambassadeurs that are likely to cause me prolems.

Thanks in advance for your help

Assume you have a schematic? If not, look here: http://www.mikesreelrepair.com/schematics/albums/ambassadeur/Ambassadeur_2500CI_04-00.pdf

As far as sideplate bearings, they can sometimes be pretty sticky. I bend a paper clip so it has a small 90 degree tip and use it to pull most bearings. If it won't fit under the bearing, reseat the bearing in its recess and smack the sideplate on your palm a few times to get it started out.

The Reel Mechanic has passed away,he was a good friend of mine. As for removing stuck bearings use a jewelers screwdriver and push it out through the opposite side. As for the levelwind, there are 2 prongs located at the top and bottom that pop out using a small screwdriver. They snap back in when you put it back together. When you're ready to put the reel back together sand the outer casings of the bearings so they don't fit so snugly. Also try to keep excess grease off the bearing when you put the pinion gear back in as it will affect the bearings speed. Also check the position of the pinion yoke, the slanted side should be on the bottom facing away from the gear. Any other questions, please feel free to ask. P.S. for some reason the post says plaster of paris! It should be there are 2 prongs at the top and bottom of the worm gear collar that you can pop out with a screw driver

I have 2 of these, well more like one. their really good reels, check YouTube for tutorials. when i cleaned mine i couldn't find the exact model tutorial but most Abu's are the same so i just watched a different tutorial. They were my designated salmon reels until i got new stuff. I ruined the drag on one while sturgeon fishing. It didnt really take the pressure of an 8 footer and after i landed the fish i realized i needed a new reel. It wasnt the reels fault though, the big ones kill most any reel  :D
