Crymdawg
I have member from my bass club would like me to make 1/4 oz buzz baits on a frame that places the weighted portion and there fore the hook a bit further back from the line tie area that premade frames currently display. Plus he would like to use a large buzz blade. I currently have the following wire sizes 0.029" and 0.035" that I use for my spinner baits. I'm pretty sure that the 0,029 is TOO THIN. Does any body have any opinion or suggestion for me. Don't want to get too much inventory for a project that might "tank" so I'd need a wire diameter that I can also use on spinner baits. I DO NOT have a wire bended so I use special wire bending pliers which do pretty well with the above sizes I have in stock. I know that the standard 0.050 is almost IMPOSSIBLE to bend with pliers, so any suggestions would help. Long Lake Lures
I also like my buzz baits a little longer than typical, so I ordered some 12" 0.051 shafts from Lurepartsonline and bent my own. I have the Hagens bender(the smaller one that makes loops) and it works well for this. I would imagine for the lighter 1/4 oz baits, you could drop down to 0.040 or so which would make it easier to bend with round tip pliers. Good luck! smalljaw
I use the little blue bender, I don't have or use the boggs or hagens because I don't make in-line spinners and harnesses, only spinnerbaits, this bender will only do up to .041 wire which is ok for a 1/4oz buzzbait. The problem is while it is possible to bend .040 or .041 wire by hand, it is hard to do consistantly. The little blue bender isn't expensive and will make bending wire for spinnerbaits really easy but the other problem you have is the large blade on a small buzzbait, in order to make a bait that will work with a long shaft and a big blade you may have to use .050 wire and then you would need a boggs or hagens plus the conversion kit for the bigger wire and that is plenty expensive but if you are going to make them for yourself and others it may be worth it but if you are only going to make a few then you may just want to forget it and have him eith look elsewhere or use a normal size bait.
