Help With A Clone?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Im just getting started into the world of pouring my own baits. I have already duplicated my favorite dropshot worms using the POP method, however I think i need to go with a CNC mold for my favorite swim bait. The photo below shows what I'm after.

Image #1: The original STYLE i want to match (Reaction Innovation Skinny Dipper 5") I used this image because the color shows the most detail.

Image #2: The CNC mold I am looking at getting (5" Swim Ripper from BassTackle.com)

Image #3: The final product of the mold

Image #4: The color I want to duplicate (Money shot violet)

My question is: How close does this mold look to the original? I can see that the ribbing on the top of the bait flows the opposite direction and has a smooth belly, but other than that I cannot find any other differences. Do you think it will perform the same way considering the differences? And finally.. What do you think the color is on image #4? Just clear plastic with glitter?

Just about my favorite bait! I fish it in the pads and yours won't tear up using medium like the originals do. I flip it, pitch it, etc. There isn't a way you can't fish this bait!

Try 1 drop LC white to 2 cups plastic plus the flake

The original is your favorite bait or are you pouring this mold?

I have a top pour RTV 3 " bait from LC....It swims great!!! So what if its flat ontop...3 color pour no problem...

I agree. I have all three sizes of LC swimbait and they all swim fine and catch bass and pickerel! Good value for the money.

One thing I do is cut a slit into the front of the mold and insert the handle of a metal teaspoon before pouring. It creates a hollow in the body, easier for hook sets. I take a soldering iron, using the thin blade or a heated knife and close the front off. Cutting the silicone doesn't damage the mold. I've also inserted the handle into the bottom of the mold to accomplish the same thing.

Like I said before, I am new to this whole thing, but to add to the debate....I actually have and use the money shot violet color. It doesnt apear to have a violet colorant IN it. It's just a milky white transparent color, however, it does gives off a violet sheen when looked at from different angles. I think you guys refer to it as "pearl", but I can be wrong. Do you get that effect by using white pearl colorant? If so I guess I need to add that to my shopping list

Sounds like hilite to me, but I haven't seen it in person, so it's hard to say.

I guess now I'm going to have to go out to the garage and try to make it :D

I got antsy and bought the mold. I decided on the 2 cavity hand pour instead of the injection style 1 cavity since i would have had to buy the injector. It would have cost the same, and i only have intentions of doing single color pours. Plus i can pour 2 at a time. Wish me luck...I'll be here....waiting for the UPS truck :D

When you add the hi lite use just a small amount other wise it will yellow on you. I would also use MF pearlescent for the white part. Just add a few drops to it to get the milkie effect.

The diffrance in the mold from I can tell is the ribs are different and the BassTackle one has a pattern on the head and tail section unlike the RI one.

You need to pre heat the mold since it is a top pour mold also. Otherwise you will get bad pours and cold cracks on the bait.

I got the mold it pours great and performs better, the bait as a hook slot that is deeper then the original better hook ups.

I dont pre heat the mold and I dont seeem to have to many problems .

Also the bait on the B.T as a thicker head lasat longer

tThe colour has some violet hilite on it with black and holografic glitter.

you can do laminated baits but you need a dual injector
