ethan3
Hey guys, I just got my kodiak craw mold in, and tried it out. I tried pouring several times, and the claws never filled up, but the body did. I poured as slow as i could and as straight down the middle as i could. Is there something Im doing wrong? Thanks
saggitarius449
What is the temperature of the plastic? Are you pouring or injecting?
gone2long
make sure you have the hand pour mold and not the injection mold, you'll never get the injection mold to hand pour, the injection mold's sprue is @ a right angle to the bait, the hand pour is on the end of the mold. ethan3
Ive got the hand pour mold, and I dont know the exact temp of the plastic, but i get it as runny as i can without burning it. I tried again this morning with no success. Does anyone else have the hand pour mold? It is ridiculous, it doesnt work

powerworm
it could possibly not have the proper venting for a handpour but still have the top pour hole??? what size is it 4 or 5"?
biggun
it could possibly not have the proper venting for a handpour but still have the top pour hole??? what size is it 4 or 5"? I have the 5" one heat up the mold just a bit and it will pour fine, somtimes I will just pour in it cold and let it set for bout ten minutes to worm the mold, pull that one out and the claws are usually not filled and then go, after the mold warms a bit it pours fine and ive poured hundreds in mine. powerworm
i know there are 2 different thicknesses for the claws 1 for hand pour and the other for injection. chris could have gotten the 2 switched up i have lots of his molds and it looks funny to see them all layed out and the hinges all go different directions and some have the keyway to open the molds on top some on bottom but the molds still work just a little off on the consistency might be the problem here if it doesnt pour at all
ethan3
Well I have the 4 incher, and I am going to try to heat it up a bit. Ill let you know if it works.
GB GONE
I know several people with that mold and they all pour great. It is not the mold. LOL!!!! Never the mold! Never say never...... Seriously though, those molds are all as exactly the same as they could be so that is true. I'd pour some hot, junk plastic in that bad boy a couple times and then see if you can get a good pour. Beware of excessively heating the mold to hot in an oven or anything else. Should be no need for that. I'll guess you are pouring with medium plastic so that stuff can be a bit viscous. Give Bear a call if you can't get it done as he will take care of you without a doubt! Jim
ethan3
Thanks everybody. I heated it up with some plastic for a while and I found the sweet spot to pour from, and i am getting good pours basically every time now. Haha, I started pouring it a little faster, and it worked better, than a really slow pour.
powerworm
yep dont ever say never over the last 8-10 years ive personally owned 6 that wouldnt work and had to be sent back and 2 in the last 1.5 years. but it is very rare but it still does happen!! and there is never any need to ever preheat a mold with anything other than just making baits. Pitbull Baits
I got thoes molds you have to pre heat them. I have 10 of them and had the same problem before I started heating them. Then what plastic are you using? Some are a little to thick to work well.

How could you have them for 8 to 10 years cause they only been out for about two years. Then you just started pouring what 2 years ago give or take. Then don't you only use injection molds? Didn't the hand injector just come out a couple years ago? or are you talking about hand pour molds that were bad? Then what does Bear's site have to do with this? Then didn't some of us on Bear's chat room explaine to you that you have to mix your plastic first before you heat it up? When you were asking why you baits were coming out sticky after you poured them. Then with these molds ethan3 is talking about you sent back because you couldn't get them to pour right (same problem) and got injection ones insted? Smallie
Ive got the hand pour mold, and I dont know the exact temp of the plastic, but i get it as runny as i can without burning it. I tried again this morning with no success. Does anyone else have the hand pour mold? It is ridiculous, it doesnt work I know people will say you don't need one but I use my infra-red thermometer all the time. With all the variables in plastisol, recipes and the constantly dropping volume of plastic in my cup as I reheat I find a thermometer very useful to prevent scorching, melting glitter etc. You can get one that is accurate enough at Harbor Freight for pretty cheap. I got mine on eBay for around 25 dollars with free shipping and it was a RayTek MT4. If you stick RayTek MT4 in the eBay search there is one on there right now for that price delivered. Here are a few examples from Harbor Freight: http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?category=&q=thermometer
