champ198
i have been toying with the idea of pouring my own soft plastics. i have a few questions. i noticed i think it was Janns Netcraft had a starter kit for something like $60 or so...are these good kits to get started with? also what are other things that are needed to do this. i fish a ton of soft plastics and love to make up my own things and designs. so thought it would be a good idea to start making my own. i have read around on here some and cant seem to find any good hard info or any articles on starting up with it...unless i have missed them. can you all suggest any articles or info would be a huge help. GoneFroggin
I got the starter kit from Caney Creek Molds and am extremely happy with it. The service and turn around time is great too! Here's a link to the starter kits: http://www.caneycreekmolds.com/Kits-and-Certificates_c_24.html I got the 4" Croaker and it's the best frog I've used
gone2long
personal observation is to stay away from janns netcraft all reports i've read about them is that they are dangerous in the hands of a novice, plastic clips break and hot plastic explodes when the mold fails. Get yourself a nice starter kit from bear's, basstackle or others already mentioned you'll be hooked and join the rest of the madhouse. champ198
i saw the starter kits that was mentioned earlier and looks like a great kit. i assume that the injection makes a much nicer bait than a open pour. but was wondering about other things that are needed other than the obivious molds, plastic colors and flake. im still trying to do some reading on here but any info will help

The injection is mainly to pour more difficult baits, that hand pouring may struggle to fill and also speed. Dave
powerworm
you will need to decide how you are going to heat your plastic? get a good IR thermometer and gloves also. and a notepad to write down your recipes as most people arent as anal as i am and can remember all 87 of mine because im afraid of losing a book...MY BAD!! i did that once wont happen again!! wchilton
If you have in mind something specific and it's not too exotic you might be able to get a pre-made mold from LureCraft. They have a ton of different ones for around $10 each and you'd spend that much or more on pourable silicone to make the thing. Lots of guys here use POP (plaster of paris) to make molds with. It takes some practice but is inexpensive. With POP you need a soft master that you can get out of the mold without breaking it (the mold). The master can be soft plastic (cut/glue to make) or you could use modeling clay but it will only be good for one mold cavity unless it's really easy to remove. If you wanted to start out just making your own mold of a bait you like, that's relatively easy to do with POP (also inexpensive). There are different types of plastic formula available. I've tried LureCraft formula but seem to scorch that a bit easier than the Calhouns I got from bearsbaits.
Pitbull Baits
Injection does not make a nicer bait, both methods make nice baits. The injection is mainly to pour more difficult baits, that hand pouring may struggle to fill and also speed. Dave If you want speed in top pour molds or hand pour molds. Just buy a bunch of the same molds like I did.
Bguebs
I started with the Janns kit a few months back and have had allot of trouble with the cheap plastic injectors. already broken two of the three I purchased. Been having allot of fun making my own, playing with colors and shapes and giving them to friends. About to take the next step and make hand pour molds to add to my arsenal. Have fun, but be safe...
