BAM-BAM TACKLE
Hi, I am new to tackle making and I am injecting 4" grubs. When I do I am having problems with dents in the body part of the grub. I have tried to make sure my injecter is warm but it does not help. I have also tried to inject slower, which did not seem to help. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thank you
toadfrog
As soon as the mold fills stop at the slightest resistance . Then raise the injector a tiny bit continue to dribble a small stream of plastic over the hole until it pools and runs down the outside of the mold. Just a guess on my part having done one or two . powerworm
whose mold is it? what usually happens is the bait needs hot plastic flowing or resevoir to stay fully expanded against the mold edges inside the cavity. when the sprue cools off or doesnt have enough hot plastic in it tofor the bait to draw from as it cools off the bait shrinks away from the side of the cavity causing....you guessed it dents. keep a little pressure on the injector after you feel it stop dont bear down just rest your hand on it to keep some slight pressure for a few seconds then pull out and top off the sprue. you shouldnt need to allow the plastic to run over the side as down there its not ever going to make it into the cavity until you remelt it asnd inject another bait!! let us know how it goes!! FuzzyGrub
Hi thank you for the info I will try it tonight, smallmouth are starting to bite and I have alot of grubs to make. the mold is from basstackle.com it is a nice mold. thanks again. I have the 2-cavity version from BassTackle. I did get some dents, but not bad enough to throw in the remelter bin. I would try what Powerworm suggested, first. I believe mine were caused by injecting too hot plastic. That mold has a narrow openning from the sprue to the bait cavity, for easy pinch-off. I believe that pinch-off area is cooling before the thicker main body. Anyway that is just a guess, but if you still have issues, try slightly cooler plastic. While I didn't measure the temp, when I had the issue, the plastic was noticably thiner, more runny.
