Lund1900
I powder painted a bunch of jigs up Friday and didn't get a chance to cure them in the oven. Is there any set time after that i can do this task? I wanted to do them in the morning while the wife is gone, save a butt chewing. K-Mart has there toaster ovens on sale for 12.97 this week. cadman
There is no set time for curing or baking after initial painting. I usually try to do them right away. The only thing I would do if you are not going to bake them for awhile, is to cover them to keep the dust or any other foreign objects from gathering on them. bass100
The big mistake alot of people make is the companies give a heat temp and cure time with their powders, that heat temp and cure time is for when the powder is applied cold (static electricitly). If you are heating your jig and dipping, then the cure time has already been started, in other words keep the same cure temp but lower the cure time. If you talk to any of the powder companies techs they will also recomend this. If you don't cure the powder it is brittle and fragile but when you cure them correctly they are hard and durable, however, if you over cure them they start going back to brittle. I should mention I used to work as a powder coater doing NASA parts. Since powder paint companies do not give you the proper cure time for when the powder is applied with heat you have to play with your powder to find the right cure time for the powder you are using. Hope this helps. This is something you don't see much info on.
