Hand Por Vs. Injection

Recommended Posts

Ooops... To your original question, if I was doing sticks, I'd get a couple presto pots and run my sticks from there. Either fill hand pour molds or use a large injector. Both ways will be super quick for a single color. If you are going to do laminates at any point, go with injection and never look back.

2 colors are made easy with the Basstackle.com blending block and corresponding injectors. Really makes laminates a no brainer. The injectors are attached so if you depress one side, the other is depressing as well. Gives 99% successful results. It is also easy to manipulate as the injectors are attached together as one piece.

How? I'd like to do some laminates with some grubs, craws and stickbaits of course....how are you guys doing these with a hand injector?

With two blending blocks you can do three layers and with three blending blocks, you can do four layers. You may have to rig up some sort of jig, to hold it all, or it could get messy. This has just been discussed on another forum.

So possible but not really a production consideration at its current state.

I would LOVE to see that video being made in a similar fashion that Frank has done. Something like 300 3 or 4 color baits made with the multiple blending block set-up. Then a good picture with the resulting baits.

I would think some kind of quick release jig would be required to hold the four injectors and pump the handles simultaneously with one hand action. Would the blending blocks require some kind of holding jig or could they be managed with one hand?

What does an injector full with plastic weigh and what does a blending block weigh?

I agree it would be neet to look at, but I think the most effective for fishing would be 2 colors.

If you really want 4 colors

Take two of the bass tackle injectors and ask for a dual blending block that will set up for 4 injectors.

I don't think is a big deal unless you want to sell to just the lure buyers.

WAIT....NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF IT UNTIL YOU WERE SO PERSISTANT IN SEEING THE RESULTS.

IT IS THE POSSIBILITIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just thought of something, it would require a re-design of the injector system... blah... blah... blah.

Okay I will describe this as a hand pour.

Pour color #1

Pour color #2 with a piece of dowel rod that it painted and sealed so it looks like a core shot.

after set pull out dowel

Pour color #3 to look like core shot

Pour color #4 to top off the most amazing hand pour in history.

Yes this can be done with injection, but the blending block (as far as I know is not on the market).

ANOTHER WOW FOR THIS IDEA.

Does anyone care about cold cracks? To me and no offence to anyone but that would just be a waste of time to set up a four color blender tower things for a $.25 bait. Injection does increase speed but I could hand pour the four colors 10 fold by the time that thing got built for one or 4 whatever cavity molds.

I think by using inserts 4 colors could be done with one blending block for the laminate and the inserts for the other 2 colors. Please excuse the poor quality of this bait. It is an injection laminate with a core shot. It was my first try after reading this post. With multiple molds and extra inserts to allow cooling I believe the 300 could be consistently made. I am now working on some new inserts to follow up on this.

That looks good and a cool color.

I do on my baits but I have seen PLENTY out on the market that don't care. Fish definitely don't care though. Same goes with curled glitter and burned smelling baits from high heat hand injection. Quality can come from either technique when care is taken.

Without question hand pouring can do 3, 4 and more colors easily and reliably. Also you can alter the "head" color of a bait without opening the mold and cutting the bait and then re-injecting the bait. To time consuming when you can do it all at once with hand pouring.

All the tougher stuff takes time to learn and practice though and most want a quick and easy way. Nothing wrong with that but very hard for most to comment on the hand pouring side if you have not been successful at the tough pours.

Inserts can help on the molds as that is a far more simple solution. Stayed tuned as I know there are more things in the works. Fish may not care at all though......

I think you brought up a good topic.

Maybe fish do care if there are one, two, three, or even four colors.

Think my next fishing trip I will start with me and who ever I find to go fishing.

One fish with a solid color the other with a two color, take turns at the best cast locations, etc.

This could be real interesting.

Think this would take some time to get all the way to a four color lure, to get some kind of data.

Then we would know if the fish really cared about one or more colors

Regards

Mark
