nedyarb
Hi all, I am pretty new to pouring, and have been trying to make some pop molds with very little success. So I am going to give rtv a shot. But where in the world do I buy it? What brandand type works the best? I am going to attempt to make a swimbait, stickbait and jig trailers. Thanks Rob
Basscandy92040
www.aeromarineproducts.com this place is local for me in San Diego...Dont know shipping costs. Their price is good...Make sure you get a scale to weigh your RTV and harder. Usually 10:1 ratio....
GetJonzd
Try Silpak in Pomona. By far the best price I have found. You want the R -1328.
mark poulson
GetJonZd, The website says brush on the first layer thin, to get the details, and then brush on more layers. Do you really need to do that, or, after you brush on the first layer, can you just pour on the rest, so you can fill a mold box quickly? wnybassman
I have had excellent results using Smooth-On's Oomoo 25 RTV. I can make 4 molds out of the trial size. I have made 7 molds now and they all pour very nice baits. I never used POP. I made one mold out of DWP, and then jumped right into RTV. Marks Lures
I had problems making POP molds, went to you tube and found out just how to mix the plaster and pour (in a rubber mixing bowl), now I get some really good easy molds. I also use aluminum siding nails for alignment so there is not any rust from using plain nails. Mark

Thanks Rob theres alot of post how to build pop molds this where i did all my research. the only problem is all the bubbles in the plaster. i build a lining out of expoxy. thin the expoxy with rubbing alchol be careful thin layers dont over use the glue make sure to pull all the excess DONT BE IN A RUSH each layer is important. i use 3-5 coats. if you rush the running glue will kill all your efforts. TAKE YOUR TIME LET IT DRY. Rtv molds are really nice you still have to watch out for bubbles too when your pouring. its also very expensive per mold but you dont have to coat the rtv before you pour the plastic. I figure with the Smooth-On product I can make a single 4 to 5 cavity mold for about $6 to $8 each. Although that is probably way more than POP, all you have to do is pour two bags worth of baits and your already ahead of the game. Plus you can get nearly round baits if you want to, with the flexibility of the RTV it is much easier to get out than if it was rigid.
