Senkosam
Jeff, did you try out the samples I sent? As soon as I know, everyone who offered to participate will be sent samples. Sam
woodsac
Jerry, is temporarily away (a week or so), so hold tight for that answer.
Mercury
Sam I just sent the mail off. Sorry for the delay its been one thing after the other since I got the samples. Ok, The large holo glitter .62, I like, You have to heat the plastic up pretty hot to get it to curl. I recommend loading up on this glitter, it tends to settle fairly quick with a really soft plastic. .40 glitters, Good stuff. The chartreuse was very vibrant. I know I use the LC gold and its not bad. More temp control is needed on the .08. .08 holo, Hard one to call, I seem to lose the color on this one. I think it was more to the amount I had to use. But in the package looked GREAT. . I personally would like to use the .62 in holo, blue, black. .40 in gold and black and blue, Jeff PS, People using a microwave need to heat for around 20 seconds, then stir, repeat as needed. If I still had my hot plate I think it would help keep the plastic at a workable temp longer. The people using the Lee pots Might have harder times with curling and wash out. Definitely don't want to use the .62, it would clog the spout.
alsworms
Hey Merc or Sam, Have either one of you guys messed with the silver .62 glitter, not the halo - just straight silver? I'm really interested in that one. Chris
Senkosam
Thanks Merc I found another distributor that sells holo cheaper than the other two and in all sizes plus fiber(string). The fuscia sample I got was bright purple*, but bled slightly, epecially on the remelt. This wouldn't be a problem if the color you're pouring is the same or one that you wouldn't mind a mixture of. But again, it was a light tint. The glitter folded on the third remelt and tinted and then disappeared on the fourth. Question: I know everyone remelts excess plastic later on. Would flake-folding be a big problem on the remelt? As Merc said, microwave temp. control is a must with this stuff. A candy thermometer read 230 (the plastic was like water), but a lower temp. may have been enough to remelt. (Great for deep two-part molds, but more flakes must be added.) Mixing every 30 seconds is key with remelts. I also like .090 flakes (LC's .062) *(not the grape that LC passes off as purple.) Your input. Mercury
Hey Merc or Sam' date='Have either one of you guys messed with the silver .62 glitter, not the halo - just straight silver? I'm really interested in that one. Chris[/quote'] No I havent, But I tell you with seeing the .62 I like the looks. I have been using the .40 in silver and if available I would do it in .62 too. The Holo in .62 gives off a nice blue/red change as the bait moves. Oh Chris not to get off topic, but hows the lil river doing? Im going to a power plant lake to hit some smallies this week. Im seriously going throough withdraws. Already finished all my tackle boxes, cleaned, oiled and re-spooled my reels, I am SOOO past cabin fever. alsworms
Thanks for the reply Merc. The river is red hot right now. Huge numbers of fish, but not much in size. I went out on Saturday and caught over 40 fish, all between a pound or two. Mostly spotted bass, a few blacks. The weather is dropping into the 60's in a few days with some rain headed our way. Probably won't get a bite this weekend. Chris
Mercury
awww, The water here is almost 40 degrees. Still waiting for good rains that will warm up the water and get things going. Shoot temp drop to the 40's? Were finaly in the 40's. supposed to hit mid 50's today. But with cold wind I know springs on the way.
BigZ
SenkoSam, if you get quantities of that holo string glitter, I'm ready for at least a few ounces of it. That stuff is dangerous to bass, especially in a smoke colored worm. Chris I hope you're wrong about the rain killing the bite, but it just might. All the bass around here are in full prespawn killing mode right now, been hammerin em.Hope it doesn't turn off!!!! Who knows what this damn rain will do. . I'm hopin' the weather holds when we hit the river!!! There is always goretex....
alsworms
Funny thing is I had one of my best days on the river last year in rain. It was a warm rain with no breeze at all, but still a steady downpour all day. This one is supposed to be chilly, which makes me a little nervous.
