Boogie1
I am trying to figure out how many cavities a normal 3" swim bait you can inject with one shot. I know it depends on the size and shape of the bait I just trying to get approximate numbers. I would like to get a six cavity injection mold made for the bait I designed. I just don't want to make it and then not be able to shoot in one shot. I hope i am making sense!?.

I would think if it wouldn't fill, then he would let you know that before he made the mold. But, then again, stranger things have happened! You can calculate the ounces of plastic needed by filling the mold with rice. Dump it into your pyrex measuring cup and you have a pretty good estimate of volume needed. One tip would be to place 1/2 in of rice in the pyrex before you start because you can not extract the last 1/4 inch of plastic from the cup with an injector. It is better to have too much vs. not enough. Edited May 1, 2011 by atijigs
powerworm
you can get more than that out of a pyrex just tilt it to the side. if you have one of bears large injectors it should easily shoot 6 swims plus the runners and sprue in 1 shot!! Boogie1
Thanks guys that makes sense, I cant ask the mold maker as this is a custom mold we are working on. I am new to the injection process but have hand poured for a while. Another question is would you rather have two three cavity molds or one six cavity, or is it pretty much the same thing. I would prefer 1 six cavity over 2 three cavity. It takes the same the same to shoot but de-molding is quicker.
GB GONE
Another question is would you rather have two three cavity molds or one six cavity, or is it pretty much the same thing. Depends.... If you are going to do laminates, reduce the # of cavities and go with 2-3 cavity molds. You laminates will be more consitent with the fewer cavities. If you are going for a single color everytime, go with the larger mold. Jim
