gdowney
How do you hand tie a multi-color jig skirt? If you are wanting your base colors to be green pumpkin and pumpkin do you place a full shirt on top of each other and then tie them for a total of 4 full skirts per jig head and then add what accent colors that you want? Thanks.
smalljaw
I don't tie my skirts anymore but I used to wire tie them and the way I did it was to make the skirt using a collar and put it on the jig and then make a wrap and cut the collar off. Once the collar was removed I could plae the colors in the right position and then finish. I make 60 strand skirts for jigs 3/8oz and heavier, so that equals 3 full skirt tabs, now if I want to make somethig like spring craw, I use a full tab and a half tab so that is 30 strands of natural pumpkin which will be my base color, next I'll use a full tab of brown which a full tab is 20 strands so now I have a total of 50 and the final color I use a half tab of orange and that is 10 strands so now I have all my colors in the right amounts. Now to tie with thread you want to put a base layer of thread on the jig collar and then ad your base color, make a few wraps to hold it place and then ad you next color and make a wrap and then add your final color and finish. remember not to use too many wraps in the beginning, you just need a few to hold your material, and once all your colors are added you can position them to the exact spots you want and then tighten it down and wrap until you're finished. I hope you understand what I'm saying, it sounds a lot harder than it actually is.
