tekoutdoors.co
Hi its my first time posting in the wire baits form and had an idea on painting jigs and spinnerbait heads. I was wondering if I could dip them in a vinyl paint for my base coat and then when they dry custom paint them with my airbrush. I currently custom paint crankbaits with createx and coat them with DN. I was wondering if anyone has tried this or if this would even work. I want to make some really realistic looking jigs and spinnerbaits. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tim
sdsaw
I'm surprised that you haven't gotten a response by now Everybody must be fishing I'm not really into coating my stuff but I think that they will probably recommend to use DT2 for max protection Is the DN for protection? Is DN more durable than DT2? Sorry, I've never used DN before. I had to go over to the hardbaits section to figure out what DN stood for. That's why I'm asking Scott Edited May 15, 2011 by sdsaw

That's why I'm asking Scott Thanks for the response and DN is for protection. It's not as durable as DT2 but I like to work with DN more for crankbaits anyways. Its not as thick and I can dip my baits in it. I love to paint crankbaits but sometimes jigs are the only way to go on slower days. I think it would work but not sure how well the createx would stick to the vinyl paint. I just want to make the most realistic lookig jigs that I can. Try to make something that no one else has. Hopefully some more people will chime in after a nice day of fishing . I wish I could be out there but I work every weekend.
smalljaw
You can dip in vinyl and air brush with createx, most here will use D2T as a top coat including myself but it isn't required. I think D2T would be better since you are going to throw jigs and spinnerbaits in a lot more cover than you normally throw a crankbait so the DN might not hold up well enough. tekoutdoors.co
Thanks for the info. I was thinking of using D2T because that stuff is like a rock when it gets hard. I will give it a try when I get my order of jigs and spinnerbaits. Thanks again, Tim
DUCBOS
Why bother with the vinyl paint? I paint them just like cranks. White base coat, color detail then clear coat. works fine but use the base coat just like cranks.
tekoutdoors.co
I will have to give it a try. I just didn't think the water based paint would cover very well for the base coat. I guess the opaque white is good and thick so that should work just fine. Thanks for the info. Tim
RayburnGuy
If your worried about the base coat covering there are several folks who really like the Polytranspar Super Hide white. It supposedly has more pigment in it and thus works better for a base coat. You might do a search for it and see what you think. Ben
