zsipes
Alright, I have done my research and have not found the solution yet. I am getting dents every time I inject my stick mold. It is a 5 cavity 5.25" mold. It is not from demolding to soon as I have waited up to 10 mins to demold still have dents. I have varied my injection speed from fast to so slow the injector clogged. How long should the injection process take? (from the time the injector is place in the mold, til the mold is full). I am using a 1/3 cup of salt for 1 cup of plastic. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It is a side port injection. Also the dents are usually close to the middle of the baits.
powerworm
my 1st question is what does your sprue look like? is it hollow all the way down to the bottom or still full? what causes dents is the plastic in the runner between the sprue and gate of the cavity cools off before the bait can draw enough molten plastic into the cavity to stay fully formed. either way it sucks until you figure each mold out as you go along. smallmouthaholic
What size injector are you using? Are you using a presto pot w/ stirrer from Bears to keep the salt in suspension? You should have a medium injector. Inject slowly then hold light pressure on the injector for 10 seconds after the cavities are filled. After removing the injector top off each cavity w/ hot plastic from the injector. Who's injection stick mold are you using? Bears,Delmart,Bass tackle, Call the MFG. of the mold if you are still having problems
zsipes
I believe the sprue is only hollow partially. it has been a couple nights since I have shot any. I have a medium/large injector that my father made for me (same design as those you can purchase). It is a bears mold. I heated my plastic until it ran like a thin syrup and then I nuked it for like 20 more seconds, so I feel that the plastic is hot enough. I thought that it might just be something I have to figure out on my own. Any more suggestions apprecitated. Thanks.

Thanks. do yourself a huge favor and buy an infrared thermometer so you can get an accurate temp reading instead of guessing, i find if the plastic is too hot it will dent more. i would try to have the plastic in the 310 - 320 range. when you shoot the mold, you will see the opening suck the plastic down. top it off as it does this (should only need to do this once) Edited May 18, 2011 by SHK
bassfearme
i had the exact same problem in 5" stick and to fix it i did the 2 things as a combinations that have been posted here. i keep the plstic temp almost as low as i can then inject and wait 5-15 sec (depends on plastic temp) and top it off. dont let it cool to long in thee mold either, this can cause alot of small dents in it.
