mark poulson
I fish Revenge brand spinnerbaits a lot. I like how the look, and how they swim. But I find their wire breaks much more often than any other blade I've thrown. Yesterday, I had one break off right at the head. All I got back was the wire and blades. In the past, the wires mostly broke at the R bend. Is there a reason their wire seems so prone to breaking?
smalljaw
Are you using the regular series or the deep runner? I have a friend that throws those a lot and while I never used them myself I have looked at them and handled them and the deep runner uses a slightly thinner wire diameter than the regular and it also uses the hidden weight design which, in my opinion, needs a heavier wire like .040 or it makes for a fragile bait. I have noticed one thing that seems to be true for both series, and that is the wire is really really "springy" so to speak, I've used piano wire to make baits before and that is springy too but not like the revenge brand, my friend told me that if he has to straighten out the wire more than twice, it'll break soon after, sometimes on the cast. mark poulson
Actually, I've had both break, but the deep runner is the one that broke off right at the head. I don't know what the diameter of the wire is, but I have also had the wire break if I have to bend it back more than a few times. I have a friend on their pro staff. I asked him what was wrong, and he asked me if I were swinging my blade fish into the boat. I do, but I've never had this problem with othe spinnerbaits. I stopped buying them. They are too expensive to break all the time. But I love the detail they put into the lures. Very realistic heads and eyes, and good skirts. smalljaw
Mark, I think I know the answer to your question now. I looked up the Revenge brand spinnerbait and got some useful info, they use .035 wire which is what I like to use but the deep runners are as I thought, they use .030, thats pretty light and what makes this not so good for durability is that they use spring tempered wire which increases the elasticity of the the steel, great for vibration but not so much a long lasting bait. I told you my friend has the same problem and after some looking around I found that there are a lot of people who are experiencing the exact same thing. I tried for a long time to make a bait that has a lot of vibration and is also durable and I believe I got the combination right, so I'm not sacrificing anything and my baits are catching fish!! I'm sorry the revenge didn't work out for you but I'm sure you'll find a brand that will work well and have a little more durability! I thought the wire looked light, but I don't have an accurate caliper, and I couldn't tell with my tape measure. My buddy said the same thing about the deep runner wire. Too bad. They are a good blade, but I won't be buying any more.
RayburnGuy
Have you tried the Stanley Vibrashaft spinner baits Mark? They have a tapered wire that gets smaller toward the blades. This allows for good strength around the head while the blades still put out a lot of vibration. Ben

Ben [/quote Rayburn Guy is right, the Vibrashaft baits are good blades, I also like the Icon blades from Stanley and that is the bait I try to get my spinnerbaits close to, but adding my own elements as well.
