Tube Tail Cutters

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I've read as much as I could about tubes and dipping, etc. Only thing I am not sure on is making the tail cutters. I want to make a rotary tail cutter, but not sure how to do this? I am assuming the blades used are rotary cutting blades used in quilting, sewing, etc.? How are you mounting the blades to cut? I saw some images of Bojon's cutters and they have some type of wooden handles, and I saw another member's cutters that had a small paint roller handle..

Any help on making some cutters would be great..

Thanks!

Brandon

i sold my cutter it was a 4" blade cutter kind of looked like pvc cutter but with a straight blade i had a fellow make a jig to hold 14 razor blades and used shim stock for spacers and you just laid the dipped tube on the flat then squeezed and it went right thru like hot butter for about 70-80 tubes then you needed to change the blades. but if you used soft or medium without salt you could cut about 250-275 before you needed new blades

Several methods have been explained in detail, and some posts have pics as well.

Tons of great info has been posted over the years - too much to repeat.

Use the "search" function with the term "tube tail cutters" and you'll get a list of threads to read through describing various ways.

Rick, I hate to hi jack a post, but this seems like the perfect place for me to get some answers. I have trouble using the search function. I copied and pasted your "tube tail cutters" and only got one reply and that was your last response. What am I doing wrong, I never get leads like I would expect with the search function. Bojon,

The link to your video doesn't work any more.

Any chance you could post it again, or a picture of your cutter?

Mark,Sorry,I don't know how to post pictures,or videos.A good buddy did it for me.Maybe he can do it agin,if he sees this.Get in touch with me at kocron@comcast.net and I will help you.

The rotary cutter with the wooden handles, works the same as the paint handle one.I prefer the wood handles because I can use both hands.Either will work.

The Harbor Freight bearing press set up looks real good, but I never used one.Should make tail cutting a snap.
