Coley
I live in TN. But, I don't do any fishing in the Clarksville area. I would guess big water would be Kentucky and Barkley lake. Anyhow we will be glad to have you. Coley
Lincoya
CJ, In Tennessee there are several larger reservoirs within a three hour drive from Clarksville. There is Old Hickory, Cheatam, J. Percy Priest, Normandy, Center Hill, Cordell Hull, Dale Hollow, Woods, Kentucky, Barkley, and Tims Ford. All will offer some good fishing with largemouth and smallmouth being the predominant species. Each lake has it's own characteristics: Dale Hollow & Center Hill are deeper canyon-type lakes while Kentucky & Barkley are shallow low-land types. The best thing about Tennessee lakes is there is no closed season on fishing. Gene
Skeeter
I have spent alot of time on Lake Barkley, Kentucky, and Old Hickory. I probably know Barkley and Hickory better than Kentucky. You will probably spend the majority of your time on Barkley. It will be the closest to you. Outstanding lake. Kentucky has HUGE smallmouth. I saw a BASS tounament there where Rick Clunn brought in 4 smallmouth and 1 largemouth that went 32.3 lbs. Hickory has ALOT of different type of cover and situations to fish. If you would like any info on any of these lakes feel free to ask. I have spots on all of them. Better stock up on Bubba baits. Your going to need them. basskat
Hey Siebler, You ever lived in the South? Man if you haven't I got to get started training you! The one lake all these guys forgot to mention was Pickwick. Now it's a little drive from Clarksville (around 150 miles) but it's probably one of the hottest fisheries in Tn. You get moved let me know, we'lll meet up and wet a hook together. Welcome to the South.

siebler_custom_baits
i need fishing lessons and lure making lessons. for example, while we are throwing our 12" swimbaits for bass as small as 3lbs, what are you throwing? what colors of jigs are popular over there?
basskat
There are very few bass caught on jigs here except in the winter. For a while a white jig ripped up about a rods length and allowed to fall worked on Kentucky but I haven't heard of any results catching fish this way in a couple of years. Now a hair jig (I preferr purple & black) works great night fishing. We use a lot of the 3 & 4 inch swim baits. Also lots of the deep diving crankbaits, DD 22's, DB 3's, Mann's 20+. A C-rig catches more fish than anything here. I also throw a big 1 oz spinnerbait when the weather gets nice and HOT! Fish it in 25 -30 feet of water on river ledges and points. If you move here in June the fish should be finished spawning in that part of Tenn. They should be moved back out deep on the ledges and points. If you're fishing for smallmouth you'll generally throw a smaller bait. When I fish for them I want a big one so I stick to basicily I fish the same baits as I do fishing for largemouth. When fishing just for smallies I downsize some, throw a grub or a 1/4 oz jig. In the fall a jigging spoon can be awesome for both big mouths and brownies. If you think of any other questions let me know.
siebler_custom_baits
see it is way different out there. i dont think i have ever thrown grubs except in our bays. by 3 and 4" swimbaits you mean like storms? good thing about cranks. there not popular here but there are my go-to baits so i have a lot of them. basskat
The Storm's are about all we can get around here unless we buy off the net. We've thrown what we call a Sassy-Shad on a grub head for years. It's almost the same thing. Smallmouth fishing is a whole new ballgame. You'll catch on quick when you see those 20 lb stringer of five brownies weighed in.
VMAXX
CJ, Clarksville is about 30 mins. from the Southern end of Barkley if your coming in June you hit the ledge fishing just right in the summer they generate current which is the key to the ledges just like everyone said June is crankin month but carolina riggin works as well also and we do still catch fish strokin a jig(rippin it off the bottom) the Tenn portion of Barkley is more river like while the Ky section is more resevoir like either way it's a fantastic lake, as long as the current is on there is a flippin bite all summer around the islands on the main lake, the southern end is full of buck brush.
