YakAngler81 Posted June 7, 2011 Report Share Posted June 7, 2011 Looks like I posted this in the wrong forum earlier by mistake. I was thinking about repainting one of my older Daiwas. I have all the info I need except two things. After disassembling it, what steps do I need to take to prep the pieces to be repainted, as far as sanding and such? BobP Posted August 8, 2011 Report Share Posted August 8, 2011 I repainted one reel and decided not to do it again. However, I think you should prep the surface just like you would repaint a car. Sand down to 400 or 600 grit paper. Tape off everything that doesn't get paint. Shoot a self etching auto primer (preferably one that won't show up starkly against the color if the color is ever chipped). Let it cure as directed. Spray urethane color, followed by a 2 part auto clearcoat. I can't comment about painting reels with plastic side plates, like a Curado or many other brands.
