Plastic, Glitter, Colors, And Scent

Recommended Posts

Still have not decided on what brand of plastic to buy... But anyways... Here's a question for you: I have allowed in my budget for myself to buy about 7 or so different colors and possibly 5 or 6 different glitters... What are the most popular or needed colors I should start with (including colors of glitter) and where should I purchase them? Question #2: Let's say you buy your plastic from supplier "A" and let's say for example you pay $8.00 to ship it... Do you buy your colors, glitters, etc. from the same supplier to save on shipping costs? Let me know what ya'll think... Thanks!!! *TubeJig* :)

it all depends on what YOU like not what anyone else does; lets say i buy my stuff from supplier "A" that doesnt mean you have to. there are tons of options out there if you have it down to where you know what colors and flakes you want just shop around shipping usually goes by weight so 6 in 1 hand 1/2 dozen in the other. as for the most poular look through your tackle box and that will give you a great headstart into deciding what you will want to make yourself!!

I think the best way to decide what to buy is to look at the baits you like, and try to get those colors and glitters.

I've found that one manuf.'s plastic will work with another's colors and glitters, so brand is really just a matter of personal preference, and who has what you're looking for.

Don't fall in love with one brand. I like Del, but he's stopped selling some things, and I can't get what I used to get from him.

So I was forced to look around.

Lurecraft plastics are great, too, and their RTV molds are good and reasonable.

I'm sure the other plastics manuf./vendors are good, too. Otherwise, they would be out of business pretty quick.

So I'd suggest you not to get hung up on any brand.

Try small quantities of plastic from them one at a time until you find one you're comfortable with, try different colors and glitters, and you'll learn, over time.

thats being said

greens,,,browns,,,blacks.. are popular.

for colors -- if you use less of a color you get a lighter shade.

glitters

red,, black,,gold,,purple & blue are popular..

.015 & .035

if you can save money by less shipping thats great,, but some times the cost of an item from one place is enough less to pay the shipping twice..

lure craft is a great place to start and get all items.. but other places are good too.

This is what I ordered two years ago and have been satisfied. All from Bears. 2.5 gallons Calhoun soft plastic. 4oz of clolorants shad red, watermelon, green pumpkin, white, black, june bug, and chartreuse. Glitter was black, red, green, gold, and silver. Salt I just buy at the store and grind it. Every once in a while I fish with smeone who has a color they are smoking thefish with. So I just take a picture of it and mix colors til I get it close. Good luck

I just started a few months ago and use Calhoun's plastic. I can tell you that it is some stinky stuff. I also get micro bubbles in it as well that sometimes get into my baits. I am really picky about things looking perfect and will probably try another plastic until I find what works for me.

Colors - Definitely get a shade of green (watermelon), black, and white and then 3 others that you fish a lot. You can get so many shades and colors from just those. I have a tendency to get most of my best colors by remelting the green remnants of what I had left from other batches.

Glitters - Luckily there are not 100 different colors of this like the coloring. I find myself using the .15 glitters more than anything so I don't overwhelm my baits. I would just get whatever would look best with the colors you get. The bad thing is that you will end up getting them all later anyways. :D

This is just my opinion so you can take it for what it is worth
