RayburnGuy Posted June 13, 2011 Report Share Posted June 13, 2011 (edited) I would base coat the bait in black. Apply the netting and spray gold over that. Remove the netting and fade the yellow and green up to the gold. Not sure that's exactly how it was done, but should get you in the ballpark. tekoutdoors.co Posted June 13, 2011 Report Share Posted June 13, 2011 It looks free hand so the base coat is probably black like rayburn said that is how I would do it. Its a pretty cool effect. You could also vacuum form a stencil like those lines and spray the lines black and cover it with netting and then spray the gold but those look free hand lines. 68KingFisher Posted June 13, 2011 Report Share Posted June 13, 2011 Looks to me like the black was shot using a hand held stencil of some sort....You can see the crisp edge of the stencil in places but theres enough overspray to suggest the stencil is held loosly against the lure body when the black was sprayed. I use a hair comb with every other tooth removed as a stencil to get that look. Because I hold it in my hand there is a softening of the lines of what would be the green in this case. Posted June 17, 2011 Report Share Posted June 17, 2011 i'd say the bait was painted black, then netting was put over it and it was painted gold, then thin ripped up strips of masking tape were applied to the bait and the bait was sprayed chartruese/green, then the masking tape was removed revealing the black/gold stripes. If the lure is base coated in black, then do you use opaque colors to cover the rest of the black since it so hard to cover. barrybait Posted October 9, 2013 Report Share Posted October 9, 2013 I was able to achieve an effect similar to this with a plastic bait that had a good scale pattern in it. First I painted the entire bait black with a paint brush then I immediately grabbed a paper towel and wiped off all the paint I could. That put a fine black line in every scale, gill, mouth and fin line. Then I painted the rest of the bait normally with transparent paints.
