YakAngler81
I plan on attempting spinnerbaits at some point as I think it would be a fun hobby. My question is, could I use water based paints and a few coats of auto clear on the heads like I do for hardbaits? And still have a durable finish? Thanks!!! cadman
Personally if I were to paint them I would use all powder paint. Now if you want to airbrush some detail on them, then you could powder paint them white and then airbrush over the powder paint and then clearcoat. I honestly don't think that just airbrushing over a raw jig will have a lot of durability. With jigs and spinnerbaits made of lead and they constantly hit rocks and stuff, once you compromise the clearcoat you paint job will be gone. However, try it out and let us know. Maybe others have beter input.
sportsfisher
i have personally just started making my own heads as well. from my experience, go with the powder paint. that way there are no problems with durability then and 1/10th of the time to paint them. i have tried airbrushing detailing over the powder paint but adhesion wasn't very good. although its fine after you have clear coated it. but still wont ba as durable as straight powder paint.
