bassfearme
has anyone tried normal glitter from the local craft store? maybe adding after the plastic is cooked and right before pouring? just a thought to cut a corner or two
Charles_Gantt
The glitter needs to be made from polyester or metals and able to withstand at least 400f. The craft glitter is more than likely to curl, melt and bleed colors thus wasting more $$ in plastic than you saved by buying a $2 jar instead of a $3.50 jar. I have yet to pour my first bait, but that is about the same response every time I see this mentioned.
Jig Man
has anyone tried normal glitter from the local craft store? maybe adding after the plastic is cooked and right before pouring? just a thought to cut a corner or two I tried some of it once. It had to be put in just prior to the pour and it couldn't withstand the reheat so it was no bargain and cost me some plastisol. I think you'd be better off cutting corners by getting fairly large bottles of the glitter you need and get several colors at one time. That way the savings will show up somewhat in the shipping. stephen
Ok granted I'm new to this but I can offer some help. I tried craft glitter from hobby lobby in one of my pours. The glitter used was a very fine and grainy in texture (like sand) When the plastic dried It was clear the glitter was too small to have an affect on the lure. It did withstand the heat but too small. Next I read somewhere else that flashabou ( the stringy stuff you find at the fly shop) was rumored to work. I picked some up, started cutting off about 3/8" from the end until I thought I had enough. It withstood the head and looks awesome in ultra clear baits. I haven't tried it in colored baits yet.....My 02C.....good luck
bassfearme
so found a great breakthrough. creatology glitter pack, bought a michaels, came in 2 sizes with a 16 color pack of fine glitter and a course glitter pack of 6 colors, both for less then 5 bucks and its about 40ish dollars worth of mf glitter. triedd it out and reheated it and worked great! amazing colors too, just have to stir like crazy because it settles big time in the reheating but once stirred is suspends very well. very very pleased! GB GONE
Many of the scrapbooking glitters will withstand the heat and the colors are all over the map. Crazy good! Flip side is, many are far more expensive when you do the map and the sizes are generally 0.008 and 0.015 (or around there). Stampendous brand is another that works well. Glad my sister is BIG into scrapbooking!!!! Jim
bassfearme
Did the Glitter bleed, taco, fold or shrink on reheats? Thanks no it did not, the only problem i had is that when pouring a thicker mold, (big swimbai for example) it did settle to the bottom, fixed it by pouring a little cooler. got a great junebug from it

I'm going to have to see if they have any in the 040 size to test out. I have not had great results with 040 Red, 040 Blue and a few other Flakes from different vendors that sell for the purpose of making plastic baits. They all seem to curl, or bleed on reheats even when i'm careful. Kelly Green on the other hand is one flake that has been awesome to work with. Thanks Romeo
MonteSS
Bringing up an old post here. I just tried the Creatology gitter from Michaels because I am still searching for purple that works for me. It looks to be about .040 and works great. 8 oz container was cheap and if you go to Michaels site you can print out a 40% off coupon. light smoke with the purple. No curling and no noyicable bleed. The Recollections tinsel glitter from Michaels is nice too. Bottom two are clear plastic so they do bleed Michaels has glitter in two totaly seperate ailes so ask an employee there. ...Bill
