Cormorant Lures
So my wife was down with me two nights ago when I was attempting my first pours, now she is addicted as I am!!! Anyways, her and her mom (who are both very creative individuals) were in my "lab" yesterday trying to perfect colors while I was at work... I told them to concentrate on perfecting one color before moving onto the next one... They spent FOUR HOURS trying to perfect green pumpkin and watermelon with results that were KIND OF close but not close enough for most PICKY fishermen... When I did my initial material ordering, I even bought LC Green Pumpkin and LC Watermelon thinking it would be as easy as adding a couple drops of each to match their own color... Of course this has not been the case... How come these colors seem like they should be easy to match and they are turning out to be a complete nightmare?!? As I have said before, I am trying to pour stick baits so I am adding salt... I have tried floured salt and smaller granule Morten's Pickling salt... Before I started pouring my own; I normally purchased my stick baits from Alluring Baits... I have been comparing his sticks to mine and noticed his color clarity is AWESOME while mine turns out super cloudy or almost completely solid like... You can't see any light through mine at all... I am also beginning to think that the salt ratio is possibly way off?!? If you look inside his baits, he uses granule type salt... I have been doing 2 oz. test batches using 2oz. plastic, 2 tablespoons salt, and 1-tablespoon softener... Last night I even tried cutting down to 1 tablespoon of salt with the same type of color clarity issues... Is this normal?!? It seems as though my baits are coming out SUPER SOFT... Again, I am using Calhoun's soft plastic and I make sure to rotate my gallon jug before each pouring session (This jug has not been split from a 5 gallon batch, it was purchased as a 1 gallon jug)... I have tried with and without softener... I bought a bag of actual GY senkos to compare my baits to... When you hold both baits at the same time in between your fingers, mine flops lower than his and has extra wiggle (but both baits weigh the same)... I guess I am not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing... Being to soft could mean that my baits are going to rip off the hook after the first fish... I am beginning to wonder if Calhoun's soft is too soft for sticks?!? Is that possible?!? From any earlier comments I have received on my previous posts, I thought that from not using softener my baits would stiffen up a little... This has not been the case... What do you think?!? Thanks again for all the help... I will be doing some searching today for any answers, but if you could help me out that would be just AWESOME!!! Jig Man
I don't use the real soft plastisol and when I put salt in them I grind it up and use this recipe. 1/2 cup plastic 1/4 cup salt 3 tbl sp softner. I add color and giltter till I like what I see.
Basscandy92040
I am pretty new to the stick bait injection thing. Mainly do open pours from my Lee pots. However, I have dipped into the stick thing and this is what has worked for me and caught fish... I used LC 536 super soft plastic. 2 cups plastisol 3 tbsp salt (ground up in a mixer. NO softner...they shimmie on the fall good and are a tad harder than GY stuff and stay on the hook better. I can see the salt in my baits so i dont know how GY does it... I have to add more color to to hide the salt and the baits are a bit dark but they work... I use only LC colorants...The watermelon is pretty strong and you dont need a whole bunch... Try a drop or two of black to 10 drops of Watermelon....I always use at least 8 oz of plastic when trying to match up a color.... I dont use the LC Green Pumpkin...I use a mix of watermelon and Brown with some MF crawfish to give it a little twist.. Try using the Watermelon and add half the amount of brown to it. like 10 drops water to 5 brown...it looks pretty good... there are a bunch of good guys on to provide a lot more info then me. Powerworm has provided a lot of info...

Powerworm has provided a lot of info... I am an amateur, so take this with a grain of salt. I was trying to match GY pumpkin. I thought bears amber was a dead match, but I was told by TU members to go with rootbeer. Well when my colors arrived both colrs were way off. One to dark, one to light. So..........I mixed em together, 10 drops of each in 3/4 cup of plastic and 3 tbsp of salt with a dash of green and black glitter. And the color was dead on. However, I had the same issue you have. I could not see through my bait, like I could with the GY bait. I believe, the more drops of colorant you add, the harder it is to get a transparent bait. So I backed the drops back to 7 drops of each, and added one drop of red. Also, I lowered the amount of glitter, and it is a dead match now. So try what was stated above, fewere drops of watermelon and add one drop of a darker color, it should help. Also, I believe GY uses the sugar flakes to add weight and keep the transparent look. Good luck, Rob
Bass-Boys
1st off alluring baits does not make any baits. they buy all there stuff from big manufacturers all his plastics are machine injected. not saying there is anything wrong with that. just that they are not hand pours and not made in small batches.
