ethan3
Whats the story on this injector, has anyone had good or bad experience with it? Thanks everyone!
ethan3
Is there more to this question? I don't see where there could be much issue. Injectors are pretty simple. I have made a few of them. In fact I just finished some nozzles yesterday for some bigger ones. Anybody with a lathe can make one, although I roughed out the nozzles on my little CNC mill to give them a nice hex shape at one level to grip easier ro remove them while wearing gloves. The only trick is figuring out the right depth for your o-ring grooves on the nozzle and the piston. I've used Bass Tackle, Jacobs, Janns (ok that plastic one does kinda suck), Del's (briefly), and my own. They all work, and they all have varying plusses and minuses. Just out of curiosity I looked at the injector Caney Creek shows on their website right now. The price seems fair. It looks like the nozzle is just a friction fit. There has been mixed comments about that here in the past. I prefer the twist lock pin like on a Bass Tackle or a Jacob's, but there are plenty of guys who use these with no issues too. If you like it buy it, Based on the tip size and a guesstimate of scale from that it should hold the amount it says. LOL. Thanks, i was just wondering, because i am going to buy a used one, and i didnt know if it not having the pin would be a big deal or not. BBK
I believe it is the same as bearsbaits injector. I am scared to use bears just for that reason, I'm scared to have the tip come off and spill hot plastic all over the table and myself. I'm sticking with basstackle and the locking tips.. If bear finds a way to make the tip lock I'll switch over to his in a second.
nedyarb
Same here, on Bears injector. I bought one with the start up kit. I used it for 2 months and sold it. Its too hard to control when evacuating the plastic and I am not reall sure why you can't make it so it screws in. I shot the tip off about 50 times and finally just gave up, its easier to just pour from pyrex. Eventually I will buy a different one from another supplier. Rob all it takes is a little common sense when using it. if you push the plunger all the way to the end it WILL push the tip out, i put a gloved finger on the tip when evacuating and no issues with tips falling off. everyone has their own way of doing things, and one injector may suit your style of injecting, but with a little common sense it is far from dangerous
nedyarb
So your saying since I didn't like it I have no common sense? Bottom line, its not the most user friendly injector out there. There is nothing built into it to keep the cap from shooting off, like a pin or a screw on cap. He asked for opinions and I gave mine. I have not owned any other injector so I can not speak for their product. I do not run a business and I pour for my own enjoyment so for me it did not work. Rob I have Basstackles and Bear's which looks similar to CCM. They both have there pro's and con's. On Bear's injector, I scored the rod (with a pipe cutter) near the handle at the point where it would push the tip off. When I evacuate, I make sure the tip is rested onto the bottom or side of the pyrex or presto and stop when I am close to the scored line I put on the sliding rod. With practice you can make it work for you. You can also modify the tips to have a pin and the tube to have a slot if you wanted.

I just started injecting with Bear's injector (been doing top pours before) and I too had some issues ....but I've "solved" the issue by wrapping some duct tape around the rod...just before it would go in too far. Works so far. Easy to pop the tip off and clean the inside though! Could someone post details on how to add a pin?

Common sense would tell you to build some kind of locking tip for it, accidents DO happen and a locking tip will help prevent them. I like the locking tip on the basstackle one, can just point it towards the cup and shoot the excess out. Injector stays clean and it all works out well. With that being said, it is a little hard to work with and takes a long time to heat up... which is why I wish bears had a locking tip. bass100
I have a Bears twin injector and yes it can be dangerous. I agree with BBK that it is common sense to put in a safety feature on it. Common sense comes after an experience which means you would not know to put your finger on the tip util it has popped off on you once or until you have been injured or nearly injured. To solve that problem for everyone you simply put a safety feature on the tips.

Please explain the issues you have with the BT and Dels injector. These are pretty simple units and other than the thickness of the tubes really would like to know what the issues are. On the BT injector if you want to rest it on the bottom and evacuate then dont lock the tip. If you want a glove full of hot plastic then dont lock the tip. If you want the nozzle to come off when you lift it off the mold dont lock the tip. If you like the Bears injector then you will like the Caney or Lure Craft injector, I believe they come from the same manufacturer. Yes I am saying they dont make there injectors they just resell them. Maybe the reason they have not changed them to add any safety items. Frank the issues i had with Kevins injector came down to thickness and the pin getting in the way with changing the tips. Del's, it was just a pain in the butt with the threaded tip. funny Frank, i had a nozzle fall off once into the cup and that was all, havent had one fall off unintentionally in around 2 years Edited July 3, 2011 by SHK

I know it can be a little time comsuming lining them up but I have had no issue with it. There is a few videos of injectors that have no safety device on it , that in inself shows how an accident can happen in the blink of an eye. One show him expelling plastic and the tip falls off, another one hows the tip coming off when the injector is lifted off the mold and hot plastic is spilled all over the table. Safety is something no one should just overlook. And if someone asks for an opinion on something, they get an honest answer. These things happen and seams more and more people will admit it when they have used it. My guess is there is more than coommon sence to this. Easy to a very few but not the majority. BBK
Geez guys. This is turning into a Mercury vs Evinrude thread. If you like the pin buy one with a pin. If not don't. If you have one without a pin and would prefer a pin, then add one. Its really not that hard and precision is not critical. I am curious about the comments on tube thickness. What is that about? with the thick tube it takes longer to heat up and you can not suck up plastic, shoot it into the cup and suck up more (purge) without the plastic being super hot. With bears thin tube it heats up fast allowing you to purge the injector very easily.

I know there is one injector that is thin wall just like bears, Jacobs injector is just that and with a tapered nozzle is fits almost anything and has a pin. MuskyGary
The trouble I have with the injectors is that the plastic cools to fast in the injector and I usually can only fill one mold before the tip clogs. If you get the injector hot then you can do two or more. I have several injectors and the one I use the most is basstackle's with a pin on the nozzle. Frank what ever Frank, I'm not arguing about this. i stated my opinion, and also stated in my first post about this everyone has their own way of doing things, and one injector may suit your style of injecting. There is a reason that there is 4-5 types of injectors out there being used, was just posting that the one in question is in my opinion nowhere near as "dangerous" as you and a couple others are making it out to be. If you don't like it, tough!!!!

GB GONE
The CCM injector is nice. It does not have the "safety feature" mentioned with the locking pin. If you do not feel this is a necessary feature, you will be happy with this injector. If you think you may need a locking or screw on feature for the tip, consider the others mentioned. This comes down to personal preference again. I have all three (pinned, screwe on and pop out) and like them all fine. No accidents or problems with any. Good luck, have fun and pay attention to the manufacturers advice when using any of these devices. Most have videos on proper use that are good to review prior to first use. To add: ALWAYS wear safety equipment like gloves, goggles, etc. Accidents do/will happen with any devices. Hot plastic is dangerous if not respected!!!! bobv
I've been shooting with Bears injector for about 2yrs. No problems once you get the feel for it. Never had the tip come off unless I was pushing it off.

Frank Well you do it to heat the injector so you can suck and shoot multiple loads at once without having to dissemble the injector after every fill. If the plastic is not super hot when you try this, the injector gets clogged and you have to let the entire 6oz inside the tube cool down and start over. With bears you can suck and shoot all day long without any clogs.

If I have alot of molds I leave it in, if not just fill and shoot. I guess I dont understand how the perging works. But when it does get hot you have all the time in the world to shoot and pause or use the Twinjector at will. You know what I dont think any one has brought up is the hole in the tip I think bears is bigger or maybe the biggest. Maybe the reason it seams to not clog so quick. Just a thought. I know one thing for sure when they get hot they are just as dangerous as the plastic in them. It takes my Twinjector a long long time to cool and change colors. Frank Its the poor mans way to heat injectors. If you keep it hot on a griddle or in the pot you are fine.. but purging is a quick way to heat so you can do a large round. I dont have the option to leave it in the presto because I run a stirring system.
Pitbull Baits
I have Bear's injector and I preheat my injector along with my molds on the griddle. I preheat so I can shoot it a few times. I never have had the tip pop off. If you purge the injector it shoots air bubbles back into the plastic. That's what happens to me anyways.
