Newbie Looking For Thoughts

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

New to the board and love all the info on here. I have spent the last couple days running different searches on different topics. I have a couple questions since a lot of you sell your worms and lures.

I am looking to start selling hand poured worms, but not as a living just for the fun of it. I am looking to keep it as simple as possible.

I have a simple 3 cavity rubber mold. Do you find that people perfer full round worms as to 3/4 (small flat spot) since I have an open mold.

Since I am not planning to go crazy trying to sell a ton do you pour to order or stock up?

Thanks for any help.

Well im a newbie to so Ill try to answer your questions the best I can, as far as for pouring worms and the little flat spot, it does not bother me one bit the fish still bite it but I have a brother-in-law who looks at every little detail so 50/50 on that one. If you are looking to keep it as simple as possible lurecraft has all kinds of hand poured molds and they dont cost much and if you over pour just a little you can almost get a roundbait. There is a lot of info on this site about pouring your own 2 piece molds but I have yet to attempt it. I have poured 1 piece pop molds they are cheap and do really well. Right now im pouring experimenting with different colors, my basement is full so I do need to sell some, the problem there is do you go on eBay, I thinks its hard to make any money on ebay with fishing lures but you could give it a try. You might already have a plan as how your going to sell, to answer your last question I would pour to order, unless you have a good selling bait or color then I would stock up on that item. Hope this helps.

One of the best ways to sell at your leisure is to watch where tournaments are being held . Contact the administrator get permission to set up a table and banner , Remember to provide yourself some shade . As for stocking study the posts here and you can figure out what colors and what lures are selling best . Find out your local fishing forums read there posts even the wild life dept. has forums . Research is No. 1 on the list . No. 2 Is making the contacts . No 3 Before you sell anything Make sure you apply for your MFG.& Retail license . The economy is pretty ugly right now and the government is digging up bones . I got hit with some taxes from 15 yrs ago .

Thanks for the feed back guys. Milrtyme thanks for the info about over pouring a little to get rid of the flat spot, I was trying to be as clean as possible so I would always cut down the overfill, but with a little overfill then some trimming I will have a round worm. Thanks.

Toadfrog - Thanks for the name ideas about the local tourneys. Once I had my technique down and confident in the worms I was going to give them away to friends and people on my local fishing forum to try and hopefully get some feedback.

As for selling them outside of the worm I didnt plan on going all out on packaging. I've ordered worms on ebay and they show up in a sandwich bag which I am ok with because it keeps cost down.

Thanks again guys for the your time and help !!!
