Kris
If I sanded off the molded in scales on a RC 1.5 or 2.5 KO to where the body is smooth would this effect the action of the bait any? Edited July 24, 2011 by Kris
mark poulson
I am guessing that it would have very little effect on the action of the lure, although it would alter the footprint of the water passing over the bait. But the scale pattern is so fine I doubt it has much effect on the water passing over and around the lure. Lots of expensive baits, like some of the Cultiva lures, are smooth on the outside and the scale pattern on the inside face of the clear plastic body. BobP
Anything you do to a crankbait changes the action. Whether it's for better or worse is your judgement call. Personally, I never hesitate to modify KO crankbaits and sand 3D features off of thick plastic bodies. I haven't seen that it hurts the action, and sometimes it helps because KO's tend to have thicker plastic than the originals. And if I'm wrong, what am I out? $2.50 for a KO?
