Need Help With Color.

Recommended Posts

Another newbie question but I have the 5 inch hollow body paddle tail from bass tackle. A friend of mine wants a rainbow trout color. Well im not to good with the old airbrush yet and this is one that ghostbaits or anybody familiar with hollow body swimbaits can answer. I know how to do the core shot where you take the brass rod out and dip it in another color plastic and then pour a clear color so you can see the core shot but I need help with three colors. Im using an injector, is it impossible? I have never heard of anything impossible on tackle underground B) . I need a pearl belly thats kinda transparent so you could see the pink core shot and then a blackiish greenish color on top sorta like a yum money minnow. Ill ttry to post a pic of the colors but Ive only been successful so far with plastic with just 2 colors. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I dont know if your supposed to put a pic of a brand on here, I am just trying to show some colors bit if it is somebody let me know and Ill try to delete it or one of the web guys will i guess.

Two ways to do it. Use the twinjector and dip the rod. Or dip the rod and inject the pearl white then paint the back. I know you said you were not good yet with the airbrush but it is time to learn. The twinjector is way easier but you did not say you had one so you would have to buy one. Frank

You are very much right about that Frank, it is time to get the ole airbrush out and start learning. I also have the twin injector and I can get it to work on all my molds except this one ( I only have 7 injection molds). I have done everything like you guys have talked about on the forums, I heat my plastic in a microwave in pyrex cups until they reach about 350 degrees, I make sure they are within 10 degrees of each other, I fill the injectors once then evacute them and clean them out to heat them up and it works on my other molds just this one, it always turns out swirled together. I tried last night with black and pearl for a shad like color and all I got was most black. Is that the wrong color to try it with, Ive tried it with other colors but come to think of it, it has always been with a pearl belly, do the other colors over ride the pearl? or is it my injector just not working on this mold? I dont know but it looks like its time to try some airbrushing, thanks Frank.

Try this. Fill the twinjector all the way up and shoot. Unless you have a ton of molds I dont think you need to pre heat it. Make sure the twin is real smooth if not that might be the reason you are getting more of one color than the other. I have shot that mold and only get a little swirling around the insert but not bad. I am guessing the block is in line with the mold and the dark color is on the right side. Just a few thoughts on this. Frank
