shmott
Gentlemen, I was pouring a swimbait in a LC RTV mold. The sides of the swimbait turned out all pock marked. What causes that and can you get rid of it?
LedHed
Have had the same problem and was told by LC to heat the mold up by pouring in it a couple of times. Time consuming (re-melting plastic and you have to do it a couple of times) but it worked for me, got rid of the pock marks and the swimbaits came out with a gloss (that was another problem I was having). LC also stated that with more use - the problem should go away.
alsworms
You can also bake your molds in the oven. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and let them bake for 10 minutes. This will bring out the natural oils in the silicon and in turn will make your baits shiny without any defects. A couple important notes: You can only bake your molds about 3 or 4 times. If after baking a few times the molds are still dull, it's time to buy some new molds. Also, it's very important to NEVER let your molds sit in the oven for more than 10 minutes. Molds left in much longer than that can be disastrous. Unfortunately, I'm speaking from my own little experience with that. Chris
Shmang
Do you lay them right on the oven rack??
alsworms
Sorry - forgot to mention that you need to place them on a cookie sheet.
siebler_custom_baits
heat up some junk plastics and use it just for preheating. if you are going to be stoping for like 10 minutes pour a bait and leave it in until your ready again, this helps to keep the mold hot.
