psilvers
I am starting a small business with a buddy and we wanted to put on the paper tags that you often see on lure packages. We don't need anything fancy - just something that can be stapled on to the top of the bag. Does anyone know where to get these? Thanks, Pete
FishAction
Most regular print shops can make these. It would help to design your logo and figure out how you want the bag header to look. Or you can get a logo designed but you still have to come up with a brand name to make your product to stand out. If you have a computer and printer, you can make them yourself. Use thick stock and a good cutting board. An easier option is to use printed labels and zip lock bags with a hang hole. Plus, some retailers will probably want UPC codes on the packages. We started the way your are talking about using a local print shop. This worked great until we needed several sizes of cards, labels and UPC code"s. We now print all of our packaging for cards and labels for our bags plus UPC code's. Charlie
psilvers
Thanks for the info. We have a brand name and I am in the process of setting up a web site. I did think of making the tabs on my computer/printer, I just figured that it would be cheaper to get them printed. Thanks again for the info. Vodkaman
Have a play with MS Publisher. I am not sure whether it is standard issue on PC's, but should be easy to obtain. Great for business cards, labels etc. The software takes care of the layout, under your control. From here, you can go to a printer or just print off a few sheets yourself. The program needs a little bit of learning, but I got it cracked fairly quickly so I don't think you will struggle. Dave
knifemaker3
Don't forget to add disclaimer's on your labels like not for use by children under the age of 12, lead causes blah blah blah. Just to keep your butt covered. If you look at all the big bait companys most if not all will have some type of legal disclaimer on them. I don't like that we have to do this but that's the world we live in now.
psilvers
All good info. Thanks. I did find that Microsoft Publisher is part of my Microsoft Office package - that will be good to get started. Thanks also for the reminder about the disclaimers - that is important. Fatman
If you have Microsoft office, you should have Word. Go to Envelopes/Labels tab and pick business card. You can put a logo on it and whatever else you want. You can print them on plain cardstock and then cut them out. Or get the box of labels for business cards and pick that option when designing them. Or do 1 card up on computer and print it including color or black and white your choice. Then take it to Staples or Klinko's, not sure if Office Depot has a print operation we don't have one here, and get a quote on how much they'll charge you. Would save on Ink Jet cartridges, cause they use a lot of ink.
BLT
I used Photoshop to make my labels. You can go to Staples and look at the different card stocks they have. I use a bright white backing for in my package to set the color of the lure off, (60# card stock) , then print out the logo on lighter stock so it will fold/staple and hole punch easy. Money saving tip....find a local sheet fed printing company and ask if you can buy some of their stock they have no use for. I had one GIVE me a flat of 80# coated #1 sheet they were going to toss in the recycle shredder/compactor. Cut it up and have a stack of standard size printer paper 30" high lol. Should last 5 years of so for the labels to close the bag. Ask if someone higher up does fish and maybe you could trade tackle for paper. I do it for lead a lot of times. I refill my own ink cartridges to save money also. It's really easy, and if careful, not messy either.......if careful lol. I have made a mess before.
