navarre66
Hey Guys, I was wondering if you can use Bear twin Injector to pour into multi-cavity mold. I'm trying to make my own red shad (black grape on the top and liver on the bottom), I've seen it used on single cavity molds but never on multi units. I was hoping I didn't have to hand pour the top then inject the bottom. Thnx NAV.
SHK
as long as the baits are situated in the mold correctly it will be no issue. btw, i thought red shad is black/red laminate.
Frank
Most of the molds will laminate just fine with more than one cavity. Unless it is a fish shape that is cut side to side. I have a video here on TU that shows a milty cavity mold being shot. What mold do you plan on using? Frank
navarre66
Thanks Frank, checked out your vid on you tube. You make it look very easy. I will be using an 8" forktail from Del. By the way I was incorrect when I said I would be using Bears injector, I will be buying the one from Basstackle. @SHK--- thanks for the response, I wanted something just a little different and I thought black grape would stand out a little more. Liver is a color I came up with when I first started pouring about a year ago it was going to be blue fleck but I was a little off. But i thougtht the color would be good on the Potomac, so I tried it out and now I throw it alot Edited September 25, 2011 by navarre66
Frank
Good choice for a laminate system. You will be happy when you get it because it is easy to use. Not sure exactly what mold that is from Del but if the tail is split then the two colors will be too. Frank
navarre66
Hey Frank, Here is a pic of the 8" forktail, tried to pour by hand but it looked pretty bad so I just poured both colors. Oh yeah, about the split tail are you saying that each fork will have a different color or will both forks split the two colors. Frank
It will be split half and half with both colors in each fork. With worms at least there is no top and bottom like with swim baits. I am sure you will love the results. Just be smooth and everything will flow well. Good Luck. navarre66
Just received my twin-injector (3 days from AZ to MD plus free shipping). The unit seems to be a bit sluggish do I need to grease it or I/m I doing something wrong. If it is grease what type do I use. BTW worm came out great. No pics my camera to a powder on me yesterday while fishing. Edited September 30, 2011 by navarre66
navarre66
Oops, Almost forgot, when using laminate is there a ratio for the colors, Some of my color seem to dominate the other (watermelon on top, amber brown on the bottom). The watermelon seems to be more pronounced than the amber. I will be using these colrs for my Camo. will place in the colorbook when it is spot on.. So should I make the the amber darker? or the watermelon lighter.
Frank
Yes when you laminate you will have to adjust the colors to get the look you want. I have alot of colors that look good only when they are a laminate. Seperatly they are not so hot. The Twinjector in the beginning will need to be say loose. I know it sound funny but loosen the top bar a bit and the caps on the top. Try and avoid tightening it to much. This is just temporary as you use the unit it will smooth out. Aliminium has the tendancy to be sticky when used like that. You can use a couple of drops of worm oil for now but it goes away when you fill it for the first time. I have alot of miles on mine and dont know what I would do without it. Cant wait to see some pics. Frank

MuskyGary
Why won't a side to side fish mold work? Don't you just need to turn the injector sideways?
SHK
because of the configuration in a multi cavity mold, it wont work. it will in a single cav mold though
Frank
The subject was on a multicavity mold. A single cavity will work by turning the block, even on a 90deg port mold. The multicavity mold has to be designed so it will seperate the top from the bottom. There are alot of fish molds out there that will laminate but they are designed like I said. Frank
I think you got it. Did you have any trouble getting the colors even? They look pretty even to me. Frank
navarre66
Hey Frank, If you take a look at the first pic, the amber did seem to bleed over the green. I think that was the sluggishness I talked about earlier. used the worm oil and it seem to work better. Thanks for your help. Nav.
