J lure
Hey guys I have a a custom two piece RTV lizard lure I made and has been turning out amazing. I now want to give it action I want to create a swim/crank bait action without changing the lizard mold. I was thinking of adding a plastic lip/bill to give it the action. Has anyone tried this before or have any tips?
toadfrog
Straighten out a hook with a healthy barb .Put the eye on top of the lip. Under the lip put the eye of your keeper hook . put a screw through the whole thing with a nut on bottom of the lip . This method gives you something to help keep the bait on and does not tear them up as bad.
mark poulson
If you want to add a bill/type lip, try making a pop mold of the bottom of the lizard, carving out a lip slot, and then pouring some hot plastic into the lip slot, and laying a new lizard in on top of the hot plastic. Or you could make a lip mold and attach it with Mend It or some other soft plastic glue, or even crazy glue.
nova
I messed around with this a few years ago. I used a 3/0 weedless hook and a colorado blade held to the hook with JB Weld. You have to make a wooden jig to hold the hook and the blade at the correct angles until the JB sets. If I can find some of those hooks I'll post a pic. www.novalures.com Edited October 1, 2011 by nova
J lure
Hey any of you guys have pictures to go with your ideas? I've been trying and trying without any luck. I have made some "swimbait hooks" but the the entire lure spins in a circle, when trying to get it to go left and right. What weight should I be using? What angle should I place the bill/lip at? Also where should the eye of the hook be located? What is the most important thing when doing this project.
gone2long
May I suggest a scrounger head, Your bait may not be 100% homemade but I think you'll like the results I've been using them to impart action in my soft plastics for awhile now they work great. http://t0.gstatic.co...i3zWj7lxixfkO4T
J lure
I sucessfully made a "swim hook," all I did was glue a bill/lip to a jig hook. The lure had some action to it but not enough. Do I need to make the lip bigger, wider, or deeper? Also the lure dives about four to six feet deep, but I want it to only dive less than a foot. Any suggestions?
