andy1976
Basically wondering what the advantages and disadvantages are between cnc and cast aluminum molds are? Thanks for any input. Seems cnc must be the only way since it's all you see posted about.
johnny438
There are still cast molds made but very few. I own around 10 INJECTION Molding machine molds that are cast molds.. You have to keep the cavities painted were the lures will not stick to the cavities. Also you do not get the detail out of the Sand cast molds as you do the CNC molds.. I have both and there is no comparison after using the CNC molds.. Also cost is a very big deal when you get into the size molds I have that runs on a Injection molding machine.. I have some that cost $6000.00 but they have bars cylinders and will two color, Laminated , Core and do solids.. Hope this helps a little.. cadman
Andy, On lead molds, I believe Do-It molds are all cast molds. Reason being is cost. A cast mold can be duplicated and made a lot less cost wise than a machined mold. Like johnny said, you can not get the detail out of a cast mold if you are doing fancy stuff. But for most of all lead molds this doesn't matter. Machined molds have very smooth cavities with no imperfections and can get very expensive. andy1976
Makes since, just seems like you could fine sand blast a cast mold and get a similar result. Guess not or someone would be doing it. Thanks again. Andy
