Wire Molds For Round Heads

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody,

New to the site here...I've been pouring for about two years now. I love making my own stuff. I am looking for a mold for my river jigs, one that has a wire guard instead of a fiber guard. It is a roundhead mold, one that would accept something like a 32798 flat eye hook. Does anyone know where I might find one? I've checked Barlow's but they told me they don't carry them any more. Thanks very much. I hope to help contribute here as much as I can.

cmayes,

What jdr mentioned above. I have this mold and had done exactly what you are looking for. My mold was modified to accept the flat eye EWG hook and the flat eye 32798 round bend hook as well. You can also make the groove bigger if you want for a heavier wire weedguard. If you need more info on this PM me. Here is the link. If you get the mold above go to Zeiner's, they have better prices than Barlow's. Speak to them in person. I'll give you a name if you PM me.

If you have a mold that accepts the base pins you can use a skirt collar to pour wire guards. Cut a piece of wire to the desired length, bend a small hook on one end to attach to the hook so it won't fall out of the mold. Slip a jig skirt collar over the wire and put it in the base pin slot where the jighead meets the base pin and close carefully. The collar will hold the wire guard in place and prevent the lead from filling the base pin cavity. This is not a high volume method but it prevents you from having to modify or buy more molds.
