Pop
What does an oxidized jig head look like. Does it just turn dull gray or does it get a powder coating, or what? Thanks, Pop
Richoc
Both. It will start to oxidize the min. it contacts the air. Best to paint a soon as poss. I try to paint them with in 24 hours of pouring. Differnent mixes gray slower, but if it has gotten to the powery point I would not paint these to sell. For myself maybe, if needed quick. But would not count on the paint sticking very long. They turn under the paint also, I think the thinners cause this. Because if you soak one in thinner it will turn gray/black real quick. Epoxy clear coat will take a lot of abuse as far as chipping, but you got get the paint to stick to the lead in the first place. Some stuff I have used will keep them looking like chrome if put on right away. Hope I answered your ?, before I triggered more.
Celticav
Richoc gave good advice, paint right away if you can. I always hit mine good with some plain old white primer to prevent this, not sure if it is just the weather here or what, but when they oxidize here they start by going dark grey then a white powdery coat developes that just gets thicker and thicker.... Hey guys....Isn't there some mix of tin and lead you can do that will prevent or just about stop oxidizing? Or is it something else mixed with the lead?
