wire,or rattle collars

Recommended Posts

Well I am not an expert at tying, but I would say it would greatly depend on the bait you were making. I have never liked using wire myself so can't say how it works. The collars work superb for a variety of materials like silicone, rubber, etc as well as most accents, they are cheap, easy to assemble, plus keep your production moving alot faster than tying if that is a consideration. Now a jig that has hand-tied skirt is the ultimate for my own personal preferrences, I like that extra love that goes into it, I only use jigs made by myself and a few of the members here...if it is one of mine then the skirt is tied on by yours truly...but like I said that is a personal preferrence. Kevlar thread stands out to me mostly due to the amount of tension you can apply without breaking it, I especially like it for my smaller finesse bass-jigs where it can secure all my materials with a minimum of wraps. I do not use it that much since too much tension retards alot of the materials I use...I get by with trusty ol' flat waxed nylon for 90% of my work. Hope any of that helps, truth be told, I try everything I think might work and love using all kinds of materials for a skirt...Maybe you can tell us more about what kind of materials you are thinking of working with? JIM
