gebarnes
I have decided to try making my own tubes. I am about to place an order with Lure Craft, but before I do I thought I might get some advice from somebody with experience. Lure Craft offers 3 types of plastic, any advice which one works the best for tubes? Is there a better plastic for tubes other than what Lure Craft offers? I have decided I will use the dipping rods, any secret to eliminate the nipple at the end of the tube so there is no trimming? I will be doing this for my own personal use so would the small, 4 cup Presto Fryer work to heat the plastic or is there another pot that will work better? How many 4" tubes would I get from 1 gallon of plastic? How much salt would you add per cup of plastic? Thanks in advance for your help!! Jig Man
You can do a search on the various questions that you have and get enough reading material to last till new years (bojon is the tube guru on this site). I use plastisol from Bear's to make my tubes. I don't use salt. I inject but when I want thicker I dip, let the tube drip then tap it on the bench top to get rid of the drip. gone2long
If your doing this for the first time I recommend viewing Bojon's video on horizontal dipping you will need a gallon of plastic in a presto pot in order to get the proper length with vertical dipping rods, the longer you heat plastic the faster you will experience color change and overall breakdown of the plastic smaller batches are the way to go and Bojon's method is that way. Scroll to the bottom of the pasted link and view Bojon's videos on this subject. http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/22062-dipping-tubes/page__hl__%2Bdipping+%2Btubes__fromsearch__1 Good luck and look forward to some pics of your creations!
