Presto Pot Help

Recommended Posts

Ok I am still getting used to the presto pot. I am trying to make stick baits with salt. I added 2 qts of plastic, salt, colorant , glitter etc. I let it heat, then when it was ready I turned off the mixer. Inserted my injector and then shot several molds of 4 and 5 inch sticks. Problem is, some of the sticks came out with very little salt and others came out with too much salt. I never got a consistent stick. I am getting ready to give up on this method and go back to my old ways. I was hoping this would speed things up.

330-350 works good for me with heavily salted baits. I keep my injector hot by setting it on a hotplate with the 1/2 closest to the tip surrounded by a steel bushing. I have the top 1/2 wrapped with an old sock for insulation. The sock also makes the hot injector easy to handle.

thats why its hard to give accurate information about presto pots and injecting baits here no 2 pots run the same neither do thermometers. also no 2 people will interpret the readings the same. this hobby is all about a "feel" for things either they work or they dont if they dont you try this way or that until you get somewhere where you are happy with the results. ask any question on any forum and there will never be just 1 answer you just have to do it and decide for yourself. after 22 drums i dont use a thermometer anymore i just know what to do if its a tad cold or way too hot and everyone can also but what works for me isnt necessarily going to work for the next guy
