Drewgill
Does anyone know where I can find a 3/0 round bend hook that will fit the 3/8 oz Poison Tail mold? I have only been able to find the Mustads in 4/0 and 5/0: (http://www.barlowstackle.com/Mustad-32724BLN-Jig-Hook--P405.aspx) ...Or will the 4/0 fit in the 3/8 oz mold? Thanks! CarverGLX
If u cant find anouther 28 or 30* you could take about any 45 or 60* and heat with a lighter and bend. Little aggrivation but that could be your only other option. I thought gami made one but not sure. Check thier main site and maybe call and ask for distributers. Gloomisman
This is the one I use. You will need to open up the mold just a tad. Its a better/stronger hook then the one you listed. http://www.barlowstackle.com/Mustad-32886-BLN-Jig-Hook--P402.aspx
Drewgill
Thanks guys. GLman, when you say 'open up the mold', do you mean modifying it for the hook's diameter, or it's angle? cadman
I use the same one as Gloomisman does. Also when I need a Gami hook I was fortunate to get a 30 degree hook in a Gami as well. If you are looking for Gami's PM me and I might be able to help you out.
Gloomisman
Thanks guys. GLman, when you say 'open up the mold', do you mean modifying it for the hook's diameter, or it's angle? All you need to do is slightly widen the ye and slightly open the base of the head where the hook rests on the mold. I used a piece of fine emory cloth on a fine hood and opened it up a little. Go real slow and it will work perfect. Opening the eye I used an engravers tool to slowly remove metal around the eye.
mark poulson
I used a drill bit in a drill press, locked so it stayed at the right height, and just moved the mold by hand, slowly, until the hook eye portion was big enough for the 4/0, instead of the 2/0 it was designed for. I stopped just short of the next cavity, and that let the bigger hooks fit, but at a slight angle. I used the edge of a 1/2 round mill bastard file to open the hook wire slots enough for the heavier wire, and the slight angle the larger hooks needed.
