I tried around my home area but I am thinking I might have a better chance near my university because there are more mom and pop stores. BLT Posted January 5, 2012 Report Share Posted January 5, 2012 Find a plumber that does remodeling, ask if they replace lead water pipes to keep you in mind to buy it. Put an add on Craigslist in the sporting section, wanted section, and automotive section. Like others have said, getting it for nothing is another story. normans Posted January 18, 2012 Report Share Posted January 18, 2012 I would not want to work with lead from car batteries , I get my lead from a junk metal yard. It always has alot of lead and he lets me cherry pick what i want. I have not bought much because i am just getting started with this tackle deal. But this way i only have to pay 75 cents a pound. RAWJigs Posted January 18, 2012 Report Share Posted January 18, 2012 I guess I have gotten lucky. My uncle gets free lead from a guy that owns a tire shop at his church. When I started my uncle told me he had TOOOOO much lead to let me know when I needed it and he still has over 2000 pounds of lead. He makes pinewood derby cars so he melts the lead for the car weights. I also had a guy drop me off all these molds, melting pot, paint, and all this other stuff with over 100 pounds of lead.
