Golfer1659
When tieing a hair jig after all the hair is on and done, do you have to tie a knot or can you just solidify the thread with some glue?
Jig Man
When I tie any jig with thread I use a whip and do a series of half hitches after all the wraps. To hold it all together I use Hard as nails clear fingernail polish instead of glue.

The Dutchman
I take a piece of fishing line(braid) about ten inches long. Tie a knot. Now you have a loop about 5" long. Lay the braid on top of jig wrapping. Leave about an inch sticking out in front of jig. Wrap thread on braid about 15 times. Cut thread and leave about 4 inches. Put that piece thru the 1 inch hole. Pull on other end of braid. this will pull thread thru the wraps. Cut thread and finish with Hard as Nails if you wish.
BLT
buy a whip finisher tool. Old school guys cringe some times hearing this, but they work great.
Golfer1659
I picked up a Whip tool this morning. BLT
If you have a bench vise and a set of vise grips, you have your flytying vise. It's a lot harder to do when you can't spin the jig around IMO.
G-Bait
what size jigs are you tying? Without a rotating vise its going to be tough. It can be done... just a lot of standing and bending. JM2C, J
mark poulson
I use a skirt tool and rubber collars to make my skirt and mount them on my jigs, or spinnerbaits. Then I use either braid or wire in front of the collar to secure the skirt, cut off the rubber collar, and, if I've used braid, I add a drop of crazy glue on the braid. The collars are really cheap, and a sharp exacto cuts them really well. By using a collar first, I can position the skirt material the way I want it on the jig easily, before I add the wire, or braid. I've never been able to hold stuff in place and tie it well. Not that coordinated, and I have a cheap Cabela's vice that doesn't rotate. When I tie feathered trebles (you accomplished tiers would have a real laugh watching me), I finish wrapping the head with my tying thread, and then do three half hitches over the hook eye and onto the head. A drop of crazy glue, and it will never unravel. I watched that video showing how to finish tying with a whipping tool, and it seemed too complicated for me. I know I can tie a half hitch.
